Saturday Al

What to write about on this chilly Saturday morning - no more snow, the glass has risen significantly and a weak, wintry sun is shining but when I opened the front door to look out I was met by an icy blast.   Yes the wind is stronger.

Another week end arrives.   Why week ends should be harder to get through during lock down than week days are, I am not sure.   All I know is that I am always pleased to see Monday morning - especially so as next week I have several 'dates' booked on my calendar.   On Monday a man is coming to fit another handrail - one which, come Summer, will enable me to get to the dustbins; on Tuesday I have to go to the Doctors for tests and a taxi will come to take me; on Wednesday evening the mechanic will come to collect my car and on Thursday he will service it and return it to me (with the bill I presume).

Next Friday, if everything goes ahead as planned, my friends will move from Windermere to Grange.   At present they are busy packing and hopefully it will be all stations go.

Hopefully too by Monday the snow will have gone and dare we hope that we have seen the last of it for this winter?   For the first week it is pretty but then it becomes tiresome and then after another week just a real nuisance.   That is where we are at now.

If I have crocuses or snowdrops out in my garden then I am unaware of them.   I think in this Covid climate we are even more desperate than usual for Spring to arrive.   This morning The Times suggests that Covid is beginning to recede - let's hope this is true

Now in the late afternoon the morning's weak sun disappeared quickly and in its place a uniformly grey sky and a strong wind.  The snow has not gone at all today and I am starting to worry that it will not have gone for my Doctor's appointment on Tuesday - I cannot go if there is any snow or ice underfoot.

Michael Palin in The Himalayas to look forward to tonight - wonderful programme.

I think most of us will feel better if it just warms up!

I had to wear several layers to take Rick out for his walk this afternoon, it was bitterly cold. Still a few icy patches about too.

Equally fed up.

Just thought when you get to doctors there should be a wheel chair?

You may be in luck as the weather forecast For Tuesday shows temperatures of around 10C, hopefully warm enough to have melted all the snow.

I will look for the show with Michael Palin in the Himalayas, sounds good. I am longing for spring too and today my post is about spring! I found a lovely poem by Swinburne to include, I know you like poetry too. That is excellent that your mechanic will get your car, service it and deliver it back, how convenient.

How exciting for your friends to be moving to Grange. They will now live by the sea as opposed to a lake I assume and they might even have a palm tree.

I remember going to Grange-Over-Sands once and the sea was but a distant rumour, though it seemed a pleasant little place. It's supposed to be warming up next week. My father used to say he only enjoyed seeing snow when it was on Ski Sunday on TV.

'Covid is beginning to recede.." I'm afraid it's wishful thinking. Its variants have just displayed their new 'hobby'- children, forcing the big pharma players to urgently start performing trials on children to get an adequate vaccine.

The last few days seem to have been vying with each other to be the coldest, yet there has been little visible sign of frost. The wind has been like a knife and my trusty winter coat has been a godsend. The thought of Spring is keeping us all going.

Snow on snow on ice here--with a little freezing rain and lots of fog mixed in. This is expected to continue all week so we are hunkered down now to wait it out. We did get our vaccines Friday, and were very glad of it. And I bought seed starter mix, so I will get some seeds planted this week for an indoor start.

Winter storm to hit late Monday into Tuesday morning at my house. So dreary.

I have only one appointment next week; Friday to the doctor. That is OK; there will be much snow falling Monday and Tuesday.

I think we all look forward to Spring. February can be harsh. That said, with each day we are one more day closer to Spring.

It's been bitterly cold here this week, but I've already seen lambs in the field and tiny shoot of wild garlic in the woods. Spring will be here soon. X

Thanks everyone for your comments

love the idea of snow only being exciting on ski sunday - tend to agree these days!
