Sadness

First of all sadness to read of the passing of Jill - whose posts on Land of the big Sky always gave pleasure with her pictures of the sea and  the sea birds she loved and painted so .  To hear of the passing of 'one of our own' always brings sadness - we are such a happy family.   As her family say, let's all raise a glass of red to her memory.

Now apologies for no post yesterday.   Time ran out I'm afraid.   The weather here has been lovely over the last few days - not all that warm; it is only February after all, but pure sunlight and clear fresh air..   so I walked the longest I have walked since October and by the time I got home again and ate my lunch I was really tired.   I sat in the chair and looked what was on television (I am not a rugby fan) and great joy to see that one of my favourite films was on BBC 2 in the afternoon.  I drew the blinds to shut out the lovely sun and for two hours indulged myself in Brideshead Revisited.   Thinking back I really think that the old BBC serial of many years ago did it better but it passed a lovely afternoon.

Then Priscilla and I had a short walk round the back garden and I was disappointed to see that hardly anything (apart from the hellebores) showed much sign of Spring.   But as my garden is mainly North facing the sun is only just beginning to reach it.

My carer, J, has brought me a delicious salad for my lunch - it looks so inviting.   It is now 11am so Priscilla and I will go for our walk  - hopefully as far as yesterday - and if anything exciting happens later in the day, I'll be back.

Yes - I am back.  Shortly after shutting down my computer and putting on my coat I went to lock the front door and it would neither lock nor unlock but was stuck halfway.   Luckily we have a little monthly magazine put through the door called On your Doorstep and looking through that I quickly found a Locksmith and rang him.   Yes, he was quite happy to come on Sundays 'Locks didn't always choose weekdays to stop working'.   I just had time to walk my circuit and then eat my salad.   I had hardly eaten the last mouthful when he arrived.

He took the front door lock to pieces, cleaned and oiled it and put it back together again and now it works perfectly.   While he was here I suggested he might look at the back door into the garage - a door I use daily now - and lock - because that is where Priscilla lives and also that is the only step I am allowed to go down because there are handrails fitted.   It has never worked very well since I moved into the bungalow over three years ago.

After tinkering with it for a while - and getting nowhere fast - I asked whether it really needed a new mortice lock.    He said if I was his sister or his auntie he would definitely say yes (!!) but most people would insist he tried to mend it.   I said get rid of it and put in a new lock - it has never really been a great success since I moved in.

Now he has gone, it is getting on for tea time, I am pretty shattered as it has turned out to be one of those days where I have been on my feet most of the time.   But some good jobs done and an absolutely delicious salad lunch eaten.  Country File and Antiques Road Show on television this evening - and I have just thought - maybe The Great Pottery Throwdown as well - so now to go and find something for my tea and say goodnight until tomorrow.

I have just been sitting out in the sun, well wrapped-up, with coffee and a book. It felt wonderful! Glad you have enjoyed a few walks - they will all help.

Hellebores, daffodils, primroses, crocuses, heathers are all in full bloom here Pat and looking quite colourful. Several tulips are also showing flower buds at their base. Not bad when you consider we were under snow three weeks ago. Also a lot of bumblebees have been out and about, plus one Peacock butterfly.
Great news to see you gradually venturing out and about a little more each day.

It is so sad to hear about Jill and a great loss to blogland and all those who knew her and read her blog. Our garden is only just coming to life too and we are nestled into the Pennines so quite high up. It is sunny but bitterly cold here still and we had quite a frost overnight. Glad you have managed to get out - I wanted to watch Brideshead yesterday but too many pressing jobs - I did see the program on Jane Austen though before it and it was very interesting - I hadn't realised she had moved so many times.

Lovely news to hear you were able to get out for a bit of exercise and fresh air.

I was so upset to read about Jill - loved her photos, her sense of humour and her paintings

I too was upset to hear of Jill's passing. She was determined to enjoy life to the end. I will miss photos of the gull gang, the Oysteratchers and the ships and folk on the water.

Glad to hear that you had an enjoyable day (nice to indulge oneself with a good old film now and again) and good that you were able to walk further. Here, we had frost overnight but the Celendines are blooming well in the hedgerows now and it must be spring as my pond is heaving with amphibians!

I was very fond of Jill, a super blog friend she was, and I will miss her greatly. Today is blue sky and sunshine here.

I think it came as a deep shock Jill's death, her photos every morning brought the sea and the fresh air she needed so much to all of us.

Watched Brideshead Revisited as well yesterday, enjoyed it but found the emotional side rather too much. Today I have watched 'Beautiful Fantastic', BBC 2. It is described as a 'fairy tale about a garden' pleasant enough if you like happy endings.

Thank you for mentioning Jill's passing. I wasn't aware and was able to post a message to DP, thanking him for his love and devotion to her.

My 84 year old friend just had hip replacement surgery after a terrible fall at home. She's doing well. Like you, determined to do a little more each day. And succeeding! I'm so proud of her.

I'm proud of you too, Weave. The same determined spirit and can-do attitude.

That turned out to be a busy Sunday for you. Good thing you had the locks taken care of so quickly! Glad you got out for a walk - it is good to take advantage of nice weather. I fell last week and have not been able to get out for my daily walks and I miss it! Slowly but surely, I am less achy each day so I hope this week I will be able to do more.
The news of Jill was sad to hear. I so enjoyed our daily trips to the Prom and will miss her!
After your busy day, you will sleep well tonight! Take care!

It is wonderful how close we get to fellow bloggers, and sad when one goes, even when there has been no physical meeting.
Spring flowers are beginning to peek out here.. mainly just the leaves so far of daffs and bluebells, and a few primulas.

It's turned into quite a busy day for you. I'm sure it is reassuring to now have both locks working properly. It doesn't seem possible that you have lived in your home for three years already! I remember well when you moved to your lovely home. I'm happy for you that you have been able to enjoy your walks with Priscilla. They should get even better with Spring around the corner. Enjoy your evening Pat!

Sorry to hear of the loss of one of your blogging friends. You have done very well with your walks - the lovely sunshine makes such a difference, doesn't it?
It's good to have those door locks refitted. I hate it when things don't work properly.
I love the Great Pottery Throwdown. The contestants are so talented and make some wonderful pieces. I shall miss it when it comes to an end.

Pleased to hear your spring flowers are not out yet! Her in the Midlands, mine are almost over- not even spring yet! You still have yours to look forward to!

It sounds as if you are feeling stronger and I bet the more walks you are able to fit in around the weather the sooner you will be back to square one.

Tomorrow is March 1! Not spring but it surely is on it's way. I have snow drop and hellebores blooming and crocus, hyacinths and daffodils sending up foliage. All this after almost a foot of snow and temps in single digits last week.

I really how well looked after you are. Your carer, the locksmith, your neighbors.

I was sad to read about Jill as well. I am also worried about Hildred.

Well done, all that walking. Little better for you.

You're doing great with all the walking! And the locksmith was good to come on a Sunday and give you sound advice, too.
I didn't know Jill but as you say, losing someone from our circle within the blogosphere is always sad.

I was so sad to hear of Jill's passing, it's always sad to lose one of our long term blogging buddies.

How lovely that you managed to get out for some fresh air and also that you could get the door lock fixed so quickly. It will be better with a new lock on the garage too as you don't want Priscilla to go walkabout with someone else!!
