Is it Monday today?

The days have gone completely to pot this Christmas - and then comes New Year's Day at the end of the week.   I shall not try to remember the day until next week begins.

I look at The News (there really is nothing else to watch as far as I am concerned) and see the awful floods some have endured over Christmas,  I see (for the millionth time) some politician  spouting on about Brexit and what a good deal we have got (or not depending upon who is speaking), or  listen to the latest depressing figures about Covid while sitting here waiting to be called for my vaccination.   None of the above makes for jolly thoughts.

In one way I am very lucky.   Because of breaking my hip (it is well on t he way to recovery now) I have Carers in morning and evening.   They are both pleasant, happy girls (well in their early fifties which is 'girls' to me) and we have a laugh and I have a couple of hours company to add to various phone calls from my son and from my friends - so I am very lucky.    My carer brought me a curry she had made for my lunch today so when I have finished this all I have to do is switch on the microwave for five minutes and enjoy a delicious lunch - she is a brilliant cook and often brings me a meal.

One day later this week my Physio has promised to come and actually walk with me and my Rollator (Priscilla) out in the roadway - weather permitting.   Apart from two walks on pleasant days along in front of my bungalow I have not tasted fresh air since the end of October (serves me right for falling over).  The best time to do anything like this is definitely early Spring.   If we get an icy winter - as is suggested at the moment - I shall be a long time inside - as will many folk my age.   At least I have a fantastic collection of books which were presents at Christmas and they will keep me going a long time.   I have started "Shuggie Bain" which was this year's Booker winner and I am really enjoying it - it is written so well that the reader is there - in the room - with the characters.   I can recommend it.

More blue sky than grey looking out of the window and the thought of curry calls - so see you tomorrow.

I'am reading a book called Wild Apples ... i bought it on a whim at a second hand book store for $1... I wish i could say it was a good read... i think the author really REALLy had to air out some Mother issues for several chapters.. I hope soon it will move on to an actual story..lol I'll give it a little longer... I used to read thru each and every book i picked up... If i started it i would finish it.. But the older i get ( in my 50's) time is too precious.. why waste it on a bad book?? I'm glad to hear you are fairing well Pat.. We will be keeping to ourselves also... Except for the occassional run into town for supplies. We wear our masks and avoid people as much as possible and sanitize our hands often.. But i think the month of January is going to be bad after the Holidays.. So many people here in the US got together anyway.. Take care my friend! Hugs! deb

You really do have very good carers in your area Pat, possibly you get what you pay for?
The carers both my ex-wife had out to her father and those that my partner has out to her mother, are rubbish. They don't turn up on time, don't always stay as long as they should and certainly don't bring home-made food with them.
My partner has just been impressed, reading your posting, at how determined you are in your daily life - very impressed.

Whenever I think of the term "indomitable spirit," I think of you, Pat.

Can't think of anyone who is more deserving of good carers, nor as appreciative of them, as you.

Sounds like you have very caring carers. I think it is still December, but that's all I know.

Glad you have such nice carers that come in everyday. Sounds like you are keeping positive and that is good attitude to have. Hope you get to walk outside this week.
Thanks for posting!

We seem to be in some kind of time warp. The sun rises and darkness comes, but the days flow, time and place being skewed. It is a new experience. Only unsettling if we let it be. Like you, I too, am focusing on small delights each day as well as being happy to know the vaccine is here. Curry is a very nice tasty meal. Enjoy.

The New Year simply has to be better for everyone around the World!!
Stay steady ... toast 🥂 in 2021 ... and, hopefully, we can all breathe a huge sigh of relief that the worst is possibly coming to an end!!
Love & Hugs from S. Colorado ... we may get some snow today!!

I love that you have named your walker. It is good to hear that your hip is coming along nicely.

Off to read about your book. I am currently reading the God of Small Things interspersed with small readings from Wintering.

Weaver, you are quite something! I love your attitude. We had carers at home after my hubby's fall a year ago and aren't we fortunate to have people like that who are so devoted to meeting a serious need? I could not have been able to care for him alone. Terrific that you have lots of books to read over the winter. Can't think what I like more that snuggling down with a good book whilst it's cold and blowing outdoors. Warmest wishes from Across the Pond. Hugs.

I get my days all confused over holidays too. I kept thinking yesterday was Saturday which would make today Sunday. We will all get it straight after New Year's day I'm sure. I am so glad you have such good carers. I'm sure it is nice to have them to visit with as well these days. Enjoy your meal and your book!

And today was a Bank Holiday Monday and I was thinking we were back to normal. Makes it even more confusing.

I often wonder what day it is. Open a window and take a deep breath of the fresh air. That should do you some good until spring. I am counting on it to come early. Snow is predicted this week here. I don't enjoy winter.

We are set to get ice storms for the next 4-5 days.... something like .5 to 1.0 inches. Lordy! I hope our power stays on and our trees stay up. One of the few disadvantages of living in the woods! Stay inside.... no more falls for you, my friend. ~Andrea xoxo

What a lovely positive attitude you have Pat, keep strong. As for what day it is heaven knows, God has just emptied the bath water again!

Already Tuesday as I am typing this, and we will have to do some food shopping, all fresh food such as lettuce and fruit is gone. The weather is cold, very wet and windy, so instead of a long walk or hike, we will probably spend the afternoon reading and resting before thinking about what we will have for tea.
The book you mentioned has been recommended to me by a friend, but first I want to read what I got for Christmas - which will take me a long time, probably months, what with the limited time my eyes can cope with it.

Reading is a gift, isn't it? It certainly helps keep me sane and happy, along with my knitting and listening to podcasts I love. Good caregivers are a gift too, I have seen both good and bad, and they can certainly make a difference. Glad you are doing well, that Priscilla hasn't tossed you recently. Hold on, and things will surely get better in 2021. I have faith.
