Guess what

Would you believe it - I fell again?   I fell beautifully gracefully while pushing my trolley - it tootled away from me down the hall and left me flat on my face on the hall carpet.  My son could not get me up alone so he phoned my Lifeline and the Ambulance came.   They stood and pondered my position for all of a minute and had me up in no time.   Now I am none the worse for the experience except for a few bruises in places where I didn't know I had places - but oherwise unscathed. But what a strange Christmas it will be.  I shall be here alone and I am quite looking forward to it.  I shall mark out the one  or two programmes I want to watch on TV (Did anyone else watch Dr Zhivago on Monday afternoon - sheer indulgence - at teast the fourth time I have seen it), read the books I have asked for as presents, snooze (hopefully the bruises will have come out by then)

The sun is shining today - but then it would be now the Great Conjunction is passed I think we can say with certainty that none of us will be around  when Jupiter and Saturn pass again.

Yesterday I finished packing presents and tidied away the detritus.  Today I shall polish more furniture and begin to put out cards.  I love cards, to be reminded of friends, to learn once a year what they they been doing all year.   And I shall finish filing papers which have been hanging around since I came out of hospital - why do I keep putting it off?

My two early presents - one from my Daughter in Law's mother (an Amaryllis)and one from my two step Great Grandchildren D'arcy and Alphie (a White Poinsettia) are absolutely thriving.    I was hoping the Amaryllis would be our for the big day but I fear it will be a day or two late - but not long.   Watch out for the photograph.

Well I shall go and switch on the oven to cook my Tesco Finest Cottage Pie (delicious) and my Tenderstem Broccoli (three minutes trimmed, a drop of water added and done in the microwave), try not to look in the bathroom mirror at my black eye and probably have a sleep.

Sorry about the fall but pleased the damage wasn’t major. Cards, shepherds pie, amaryllis, would you be prepared to trade them for a few sunny days.
We haven’t even put lights up outside as no one can see them including us with the curtains drawn but we are loving this weather, a different Christmas for us all. Take care

Oh no! It sounds like you were lucky and got away with it, more or less. Take care!

You really should have left the sherry alone Pat!!! Take care and just pamper yourself. x

Phew - glad you fell so gracefully that you did not suffer any injuries! Do you know why it happened, were you dizzy?
For some Christmas chic, you could wear a glittery eye patch over your black eye, like a Christmassy pirate bride.

Oh goodness! Sorry to hear about your fall...glad the damage wasn't too serious. What a fright it must have been, though.

Take good care and have a lovely, restful Christmas. xo

I'm trying to picture a graceful fall. I'm imagining an old time black and white film actress swooning with her bend arm above her brow crumpling into the arms of a dashing young man. Was it like that? Why didn't the dashing young man catch you? But seriously, I'm glad you came out relatively unscathed. Your meals sound good, and I'm glad you are contented with your upcoming Christmas. Do take care. -Jenn

Yikes. Glad to hear that you were not greatly harmed in the fall. Scary, but good you have capable folks to help you. I did see the Great Conjunction last night (in US)...and no, don't expect to be around for the next one. Not even a memory. :)

Oh Pat - you should take more water with it!

(Glad you're OK)

Apparently the Great Conjuction will still be visible up until Christmas Eve.
I can't surely be the only one that, after seeing your list of jobs, wonders if perhaps you are doing just a bit too much.
I once kept a poinsettia for several years and even when it was three feet high it still produced new flower bracts every year. When I was in Jamaica one time they have them growing as hedging.

Glad to hear that your fall was graceful - perhaps you or Pricilla need stabilisers fitting! It's good you didn't do any damage to yourself. I wa disappointed to not see the Great Conjunction due to clouds but apparently it was quite low down on the horizon and if there were buildings or trees in the way it would have been difficult to spot on a clear night. Take care and have a lovely Christmas and a ,hopefully, better and brighter new year X

So sorry to hear this, your body is still recovering, and I guess your balance and equilibrium aren’t quite there yet. So glad it was indoors, take things slowly, your mind probably works a little bit quicker than your body at the moment. You sound to be doing all the right things, work on your exercises , and building a bit of muscle strength, as best you can, slowly but surely you’ll be more confidant and stronger. Glad you’re eating well, high protein to promote healing, and plenty of fluids, I admire your resilience, you’ll get there, I hope you have a lovely peaceful and relaxing Christmas doing all that you enjoy. The days are now getting longer and before we know it it’ll be spring, you’ve done a lot of work in your garden, so very soon you’ll see the bulbs peeking through. Mine are, and that cheers me, so all the best Pat, and stay safe I love your blog , and you have many friends online and in the real world ! That love you xx

What a relief you have not done too much damage to yourself, and don't let it happen again! You certainly bounce back from things. Enjoy the rest of your day and keep safe.

I'm sorry to hear about your tumble. I'm not sure if you can locate arnica or arnicare cream in the UK but if you can it works wonders to make the bruise go away quickly. Your little red hairedd friend from Austin Texas!

speaking as a retired occupational therapist. Trolleys were not made to enable walking. You should have a small Percy indoors and leave your trolley until you have better mobility. You do not need another fall but I know you know that. Do take care and enjoy this Christmas. I read your blog every day and thoroughly enjoy it and your joy of life. Love Andie xxx

Oh no, I'm sorry about your fall! How fortunate you didn't do any more damage but I know you must be sore. Please be cautious and move slowly although I know things can just surprise us sometimes and cause an unexpected fall. Your early Christmas gifts sound beautiful! It is wonderful to get something like flowers to enjoy on the Winter's days! Please take care dear Pat!

Happy To read no damage from your fall.
Your Christmas sounds lovely. Having a few family and friends over would be wonderful but if you can't you can't.
We all need to enjoy what we can do.

Oh heavens! Weaver, perhaps you should consider wrapping yourself in a protective layer of bubble wrap! You could put a ribbon on yourself. and call yourself a gift ~ which you are, to all of us here.

Merry Christmas!

Rachel Phillips said...

Oh dear. I have just read Andie's comment and am sure she has a good point. I guess also that the trolley may not be ideal for a tall woman height wise. I hope your bruises soon feel better and you are not feeling any after effects to slow you down in healing xxxx

Virginia said...

Golly, I was holding my breath after that first line! Fortunately bruises heal faster than bones, but you’ll still be very sore and I’m sorry about that. Andie’s right, you would be safer with a trolley with brakes. There must be something like that available, but tracking it down, between Christmas, the virus and Brexit, might be a mission! I’m relieved you’re basically ok.

No, we won’t be around for the next Great Conjunction, but I found myself deeply moved by viewing this one. The last time it was visible was the year Saint Francis died!

Keep safe, and leave a couple of tasks for tomorrow!

Bovey Belle said...

In my experience, it's the gin before breakfast that does it, Pat!! Sorry you took another tumble, but hopefully you won't be too sore. Do you have any Arnica in the house? Good stuff for bruises.

Many thanks for the card, btw. Don't know how you tracked me down, but Thank You!

Dearie me! I'm so sorry to hear about your fall and am glad you didn't do more damage to yourself. I agree your walker needs to have hand brakes.
Hope you're not too sore.

Oh dear Weave, you really must be careful. Maybe one of those inflatable Sumo suits would do the job. You'd BOUNCE. I hope the bruises aren't too bad. xx

Oh gosh, poor you. Thank goodness you have nice thick carpet and not the currently much loved laminate flooring. I must say I like the image of you in Cro's suggestion of an inflatable Sumo Suit!!

Please take care and I do hope your black eye goes down a bit before Christmas. Ouch!!

Hope all will be well from now on dear Pat - put the brakes on (literally) for a bit until you have healed!
Love that you have an amaryllis and poinsettia - both the loveliest flowers around the holidays - cheery and colorful, and that's what we all need this year.
A very Happy Christmas to you.
