Wednesday

Wednesday and the same old weather.   It is hard to believe that that glorious Monday is only two days away - it is like a completely different season.  My poor old half-done patio looks in a sorry state - I just. hope we have a dry spell so that we can see it finished before Winter.   And the same goes for the last spraying of the Mares Tail.   In the giant scheme of things, with all that is going on in the world at present, both things seem so petty.   The trouble again over the shooting in America, the spreading again on Covid and as yet no end in sight, where will it all end?

My day has been quite uneventful.   I had coffee with friend D this morning and we caught up on all our news - that was a pleasant couple of hours.   This afternoon I prepared for my friends P and D coming over in their bubble tomorrow from Windermere to have lunch with me.   They are to be guinea pigs in the first use of my soup-maker (tomato and basil which is the first one in the book and looks fail-safe but time will tell, there are so many different buttons to press).   I have a hair appointment in the morning as I do every Thursday so I have to be well-prepared today.

Earlier today friends called to show me their new puppy - a cross between a Pekinese and a Shidtzu (sorry about the spelling).   I am really not happy about all these crossbreeds but I have to say it was quite the prettiest  puppy I have ever seen .This is the first time for many years that I have been without a dog - Yorkshire Terrier, Pug, German Short-haired Pointer, Border Terrier - all lovely dogs and I would love one now but my walking is too bad to walk it and it just wouldn't be fair.   The lady who walked Tess died very suddenly about six months before Tess and Tess missed her terribly.

Still, we do know when we get our pets that we are going to outlive them (until you get to my age of course) - reading John's post the other day about the dogs he had lost made me sad for him too.  Until tomorrow.

I still miss our last cat. But as you rightly say it isnt fair to have another as someone else will have to take it over. We have decided not to have a replacement. Sorry wrong word. But I still hope one will find us!

I would love to keep a pet but the flat I am in does not allow pets. In any case it isn't very practical for late night walkies with quite a long corridor and a flight of stairs to reach the outside, and even having a cat would be unwise with a busy road alongside the building. However, I am very happy and comfortable here and can always cadge a fondle with someone else's dog or cat.
I have just acquired a Dry Fryer which is supposed to give better results that baking in a conventional oven and requires no oil for many things. I haven't tried it yet as it only arrived this afternoon.
Hope we all get a dry spell soon.

I looked at an ad for the soup maker, and it appears it would be easy to handle, and also not make too much. Hope you can adapt your favorite recipes, it's ideal for the upcoming cooler weather.

Today hasn't been too bad after the horrors and dangers of yesterday

We've just gone through a heatwave & attendant fires which have yet to be fully quenched. In my immediate area it's a cool 13 degrees. I much prefer it to the heat. Were we to have rain, uncommon in California during these months, it would help douse the wildfires still burning.

It's always good to get together with friends. I have a lunch date tomorrow.

You have a busy day tomorrow with a hair appointment and then friends over for lunch. That tomato and basil soup you have planned sure sounds good. I'm looking forward to hearing about your soup maker!

You had a German Shorthaired Pointer! I've had many dogs, and love(d) them all, but our GSP Josey Belle was my heart dog. What an athlete! And gorgeous, too. Headstrong, stubborn, mischievous, smart, and I loved all of those things about her. I'd like to have another one before my pet-owning days are over...

Yes, that's the sad thing when one has pets, we get so attached to them and then they die. I still think of the cats I used to live with almost daily, especially the white one which I raised from when she was only 12 weeks old. She died 17 years ago but will remain unforgotten. Like you say, it would not be fair - same here, it would not be fair for me to have a cat again, what with me being away almost every weekend and (under normal circumstances) out for work all day.

Well it is certainly 'interesting times' we are living through. On an optimistic note we are seeing history making itself and are bystanders. Your life is slowly beginning to pick up the threads before the pandemic and that is all to the good.

One of our sons has an elderly black lab that has gone missing. He's looked everywhere for the old boy. I think Jake has just gone off and found a nice place to go to sleep and not wake up. At 17 he was older than most labs, and such a good old gentleman. He will be missed by all of us.

Thanks everyone - seems a lot of us exist on memories of our animal-keeping days.

Um...you mention the "shootings" in America...yes, we are having some of those because we are fighting anarchists being paid by George Soros to cause tyranny to change our country from a Democratic REPUBLIC to a Socialist Communist society..We are fighting..We are also suffering from a Cat 5 hurricane coming into our southern States..........but possibly you don't hear this news from our far off country on your BBC radio when you have your tea in the morning...just wanted to update you on news in America...I've read your blog everyday for 5 yrs.....I'm a 76 yr. old widow, been a widow now for 38 yrs...I'm a retired RN...I stay updated on the news from England, Poland, Italy, and Spain......Just saying that honestly, no offense intended, but you have no true idea of what is really happening in my country....you might wish to check into the true "world news"....Have a nice day.

I'm sorry but I must add one more thing...people our age, yes, can "stick our heads in the sand"...afterall, we may not live long in our country's future....BUT....our children, and grandchildren are the future! I will fight for them...And have you ever considered what might happen to England if America falls this November to a Socialist Gov't?....America has always fought to help England stay free and strong. Believe me, that would all change if America cannot stay a free Constitutional Republic.............I'd love to put my head in the sand, believe me!! But I can't because the country I cherish is facing a crisis now...I wonder how the rest of the World truly knows about this crisis??
Sorry...I won't bother you again....God bless.
