Monday Blues

I certainly seem to have the blues at the moment, possibly because, as so many of you are saying, everything seems to be going wrong at the moment.  It would be so easy(and is easy when one lives alone) to sink into the 'slough of despond'.   But it is a pretty pointless exercise because it doesn't make anything any better.   The answer for me to day has been to keep as busy as possible.

I needed to go into town to reorganise some of my financial affairs and when I had done that I decided to drive the five miles or so to the farm shop where I buy my ready-made meals - forgetting that they don't open on Mondays.   Never mind, my little car enjoyed the jaunt - she never goes anywhere these days (I haven't filled her up since the beginning of lockdown).   On my return I e mailed my order through and then got my lunch (fish pie and mushy peas).   I had a very bad night last only, only discovering when I got up this morning that I had forgotten to take my medication at bedtime, which is probably why.   So after lunch I had a rest with The Times and then did an hour at reorganising my files.

After watching the News Headlines I did an hour's cutting back in the garden - how this hot weather and then rain has finished so much of the herbaceous border.   And now I have just read all your posts - so a busy day.   And speaking of the News - I am pleased to see that the Government have seen sense and are now relying on Teacher Assessment for O and A Level Results.

There has been an improvement in the weather today.   First last week we had several glorious days of scorching-hot sunny weather, then several days of intense humidity together with heavy cloud and a thick mist everywhere so that it never really got light.   Now today I drew back the curtains to pouring rain but by lunch time a watery sun was out and it has been a pleasant and warm afternoon.  Lovely to see a bit of blue sky again.   I just hope we miss the thunderstorms which are forecast.

Regular bursts of rain down here on Sheppey now, something that has been badly needed but it's got to rain an awful lot to soak very far in to the ground. Depressing for me is the almost overnight, shortening of the days and the weather girl on local TV tonight saying that "autumnal" is a word you'll hear used a lot this week. I badly wanted the rain but I hope that the hot weather hasn't ended yet.

You are correct in saying staying busy fights the blues! It sounds like you have certainly stayed busy today with all you have accomplished. Enjoy your evening and hopefully you will sleep much better tonight. xx

I seem to be constantly forgetting to take pills. Never anything drastic but I still worry. I too have the blues. I want things to happen and they dont.

I met my son for coffee this morning and he walked part the way home with me as the first few spots of rain fell. I reached my flat almost dry but he had further to go and must have got soaked as it absolutely poured - poor chap. When I got up there was a thick mist everywhere - very autumnal!
Hope your blues are dispelled but you seem to have the upper hand with them. Well done and have a better night's sleep tonight.

I think it would be more unusual if something about the last few months wasn't getting to you and everyone else in some way, and the rain and storms we've had here certainly haven't helped. I'm a bad sleeper, and know how rotten it can make you feel. Hope you have a better night tonight.

Oh, don't you hate it when you miss a bedtime med! I do. And I don't know until I wake up mizerable in the morning.

My daughter posted this as her Monday motivation... "be strong, because things will get better. Though it may be stormy now, it never rains forever".

There's almost nothing worse than making a special trip to a shop and finding it closed. Well, maybe finding a restaurant closed would be worse. Back to hot here.

My Mum is frequently forgetting to take tablets. I often get there and spy a tablet sitting on her coffee table or on the dining table and have to ask 'should you have taken this one' ... the answer is usually 'yes, but I got distracted'. It's easily done.

John - how kind of you - thank you. If I can't get to sleep I may well do so, although last night I slept like a log.

Thanks everyone. I am much brighter today.

You are keeping quite busy and that helps with the blues. I have been feeling down also but when I force myself to do something productive, it distracts me from feeling sorry for myself. I have to stay more positive and I think the approaching cooler autumn weather will help too. Keep smiling! Thanks for your post.

Good to hear that you are feeling better today.
Keeping busy and catching up on sleep both sound like a good plan.
