Into town

Today for the first time during Lockdown I had my first real trip into town - first to the Hairdressers and then on to the Building Society.    We are a holiday area, with lots of Holiday cottages and so the town was busy - the car parks were full, the cafes were full and there were lots of folk wandering about and looking in the shop windows - just like in normal times.   It all seemed a bit strange and will take some getting used to - for me at any rate.

It is actually rather nice to have a day without the sun.   The heat is still around but there is no sign of any sunshine, it is just very heavy and dull.   I expect it is coming in off the North Sea.   All I can say is that people seem rather relieved to see it.   A haircut, paying money into my Savings account, then home again to read The Times.   A cold lunch - pork pie, tomatoes and crisps - because a friend is bringing me a fish and chip tea at six this evening and boy am I looking forward to it - it is a long time since I had such a thing.

Walking round town was quite hard without Percy but I can't get him into the back of my car so I have to make do with just my stick.   Going into a supermarket is good because a trolley is marvellous support but it is then difficult to get the produce to my car boot.

I have the chiropodist coming at three thirty this afternoon so even my feet are having a birthday today.   I think this is the busiest day I have had since lockdown began -  quite exciting really.   See you tomorrow.

It looks like you had a good day, hair set, feet done and someone bringing fish and chips, which I also miss. But trying to keep my weight down at the moment. But maybe just maybe I will order some from the pub next door..

I only arrange one thing per day.

Well done Pat, good to see you getting out and about and doing what many of us have been doing for some time.
31 degrees in the shade in my garden this afternoon, hot, sunny and very humid. Apparently some people in the country are getting rain.

It is such a relief to have cooler conditions. We had thunder and a very heavy shower last night but there is actually a breeze today and I can feel I am breathing fresh air at last. My feet love chiropodist day too, but I have another couple of weeks to wait for mine. I hope all those visitors to Leyburn were being good and wearing masks.

Ooh fish and chips! Last time we had those was in Nettleham back in March, just before lockdown.

You had a lot to do today, and did it.

I think you should ask any passing boy/man to help load your shopping into the car. I'm sure they'd be only too willing to help, and would probably feel virtuous too.

Dear Pat, I was thinking about you this morning when an old art propelled post popped up in my face book feed and wondered how you were. So sad to read about your loss. We watch Escape to the country on TV and every time the Yorkshire Dales features I think of you. Such a beautiful part of the world. Much love to you, from Robyn.

I thought somebody in the supermarket used to help you to the car. Is this no longer allowed under the barbaric Covid rules?

Like Cro, I think people would willingly help with carrying your shopping if you asked them, they just don't think of it themselves.
You got a lot done in one day, and your fish & chips were well deserved!
After more than a week of unbroken heat of up to 36 Celsius during the day and no lower than 21 at night, we finally had a bit of rain yesterday and a cooler night - 18 Celsius - which made me get a proper night's sleep for a change. I feel much better prepared for work today.

While I wouldn't call the current Covid rules barbaric, many of them do seem a tad petty when one considers the many thousands that are totally ignoring them most days on beaches and other public places. What is the point of the government insisting that people who could help the likes of Pat in supermarkets, council dumps, etc., can't - while at the same time they are ignoring the countless thousands that are transgressing. In my local Morrisons garage this morning, out of 4 lorry drivers, two car drivers and a girl with perfect make up on, I was the odd one out by wearing a face mask.

Must say I did think them a bit barbaric Derek when I sto od with my shopping and no way of getting it to my car. Yes Rachel - they have helped me to my car for years but now they are not allowed to leave the premises in the smocks they wear in the shop. I shall have to continue to have Tesco delivery although I would much prefer to walk round the shop in town and choose my stuff there.

Thanks for joining in our 'chat' - I do enjoy reading what you have to say.
