Friday

And the start of August Bank Holiday week-end, traditionally awful weather and, if today is anything to go by, this week-end will not break the mould..  It is cold, windy and wet.   As I write clouds of rooks are soaring across the garden and the field behind it, blown this way and that by a strong wind.   I have the central heating on and last night had the electric blanket on for the first hour after retiring.

I am having a quiet day today after all the activity yesterday - and am enjoying it.   Living alone can often be a lonely experience but when visitors arrive and there is a fun day then the next day is usually pleasant - no food to think about because there is plenty left, no tidying up or dusting or hoovering - because it has all just been done.   And old friends like yesterday's are always a joy to see.

I don't expect to see the two men working on my patio this week-end.   It is a holiday week-end and I can't see the weather being miraculously more clement by tomorrow.   Still it will all get finished one day (I hope).   In the meantime I must begin to look for possible conifers and evergreen shrubs to plant.

I have just researched a chunky soup recipe for next week and added the vegetable ingredients to my Tesco delivery order for Tuesday.  I have a Zoom with friends in the morning and then I shall drive down to the kitchen shop in our little town and hopefully buy some plastic containers so that I can cook enough each week to eat for two days and freeze the rest  - good warming winter food.

There go the rooks again - not sure whether they are enjoying the experience of being swept across the sky or whether they would just like to go home to bed.

See you tomorrow.

Happy Bank Holiday! I'm not sure what that is but if everyone celebrates then it must be special. :-) We had blessed rain and lots of it yesterday, praise God. But now the sun & heat or back so we certainly didn't get much of a reprieve. I look forward to cooler weather like you're having... summer is my least favorite season. Enjoy your weekend. ~Andrea xoxo

Now that you have your soup maker, it's a great idea to make enough to enjoy right away and enough to put into containers and have handy in the freezer.
We are getting a much cooler day here in S. Colorado ... maybe a little rain later on today! I sure hope so!
I have a rhubarb cake in the oven and it is smelling so good!

It's comforting to think of homemade soup as autumn approaches. I plan to do the same as soon as I have enough space in my freezer to accommodate tubs of soup. The weather is certainly not playing nicely and I keep hoping for an Indian summer in September. We shall see.
It is cooler down here but not cold yet.

Could you not have included the plastic soup containers to your Tesco order? Lovely day here. In the past, entertaining always left me feeling very flat the next day and also the time immediately after. I suppose we are all different. I no longer entertain and haven't done so for years.

Rachel - thanks for the suggestion. I am going straight to Tesco's site to see if they have such things.

Seems it's been an awful day up and down the country today Pat and certainly so here in North Kent. The last couple of days have been very wet and this evening it feels more like October as it turns colder and windier.

Cold here to, who would have thought we would be putting the heating on in August?

Plenty of rain here yesterday, and very welcome it was, too. The next couple of weeks are going to be quite the rollercoster here, weatherwise. No heating on so far, but I have snuggled up under my blanket on the settee in the evening.
When I have had guests, I enjoy the quiet the next day, too; I like replaying bits of the conversation in my head and generally reviewing the time spent with my friends.

Librarian - I like the business of going over bits of conversation too - and reminiscing about old times and such like.
Thelma - a blanket under the duvet last night and blanket on - let's just hope we do get a bit of good Autumn weather before October.

Thanks everyone.
