Day two and still learning.

The weather here is indescribably humid.  Lightning flashed all night again but no thunder so too far away in the West.  I have just had a walk round with Percy before it gets any hotter.   He is out in the sunshine in case I feel like another walk early evening when it has cooled down a bit.

The air is so still and there is almost a sense of 'waiting' for a storm.  I believe they are likely to go up the West of the country rather than up this side but there is certainly a feeling in the air.

Children in Scotland are back at school today after almost five months away - they will feel strange.   Really the whole world has changed so much during the time of Covid that one wonders if total normality will ever return again.

I feel slightly more at ease with my new laptop but the size of type keeps changing of its own accord (probably my hands hovering over it I would guess) and various strange things keep popping up.   But I shall get there.    I have a Zoom meeting with friends later today so I hope I can manage to get that - time will tell.   I will add to this later in the day (if I can get back on to it!!)

I found with my laptop that if you don't use a mouse, it's easy for you hands to draw up unwanted items from the keyboard.
Re. schools - the cartoon I sent you does say it all. Children of all ages, and probably teachers, have spent the last couple of months packing on to beaches, etc, with no social distancing. I've seen groups of teenage girls and boys lying on the beaches near me, all shoulder to shoulder, with much hugging etc. and yet it's deemed unsafe by some people for them to attend school!!

My own, not very old laptop may need replacement soon. Every required software update crashes it. I don't look forward to getting a new one set up and broken in.

After 6 months I was able to get a haircut at a salon 30 minutes away who'd set up stations outside on the sidewalk over the weekend. I feel more myself again! The stylist talked of our continued closures in CA (US), worried the governor will order them to stop cutting hair outside on the walk. She hadn't yet told her 6 yr. old daughter school will NOT be reopening; at home online classes start again this week. She said her child has become very withdrawn. Misses her school, her teacher, her friends and doesn't like to leave the house because she has to wear a face mask. Because the schools aren't reopening, the stylist is worried about how she'll be able to work. She asked what I thought... and how long I think this will last. As hard as this has been on adults, I think it's be FAR worse on children.

Incredibly warm and humid today. We are all staying indoors in the cool.

Good Luck to the returning children to school!
Here, there's great worry about school opening in September.

I think you learn about things with computers and other technology on a need-to-know basis. I honestly didn't even know there was a "pen" (stylis?) attached to my work computer, after having that same computer for maybe two years now, until we had an online session where we had to use it. Didn't even know it existed! (haven't used it since, either- ha ha) -Jenn

It seems to be getting hotter each day. At 8.30 pm this evening I took out my recycling and was very disappointed to find that it was actually warmer outside than in. I had thought of sitting in the garden to cool off!
Your blog post looks very much as it usually does font-wise so you must be doing everything correctly. Well done.

Schools not back just yet. I am not using new blogger until I have to.

You are doing well, as far as I can tell. Carry on.

New blogger is awful, I can't size my pics properly so prefer to use the old one

You amaze me, you really do. I'm almost years younger, and moan and complain whenever I have to learn new technology. I have had this laptop 3 or 4 years and still find weird things happen for no reason. It's maddening.

To make the type size larger or smaller, hold down the 'Ctrl' button, and press either + or - on the far right. It's magic!

I applaud you for getting to grips with your new laptop. I dislike change, as it takes me ages to get the hang of anything new. X

Good for you for learning your new laptop, it takes time and a bit of finding to do everything at first, but from the blog posts it seems as though you are doing well :-)

I too am in awe of your ability and enthusiasm to grasp IT challenges, I’m sure it’s mentally good to keep learning but since I finished work I really haven’t a clue about such things, I could no more set up a new laptop than swim the channel. Be proud.
