A Short Post

Just a short post today - and sorry I missed yesterday altogether.   The fact is that my laptop is getting to be old (join the club) and is beginning to play up (well I did fall over this morning, luckily while the falls nurse was here so she had a demo) again like me.   After a lot of thought and a lot of deliberating between an ipad and a laptop - and whether to go for an apple ipad or a Dell laptop I have decided on the latter.   One reason for this is that I am happy with Windows 10 and reasonably confident to use it so don't really want to have to learn a new system; another reason being that I don't want something I can use on my knee - I need the exercise of physically getting up and going to my computer room to work on it.   So today the time I would normally spend doing my post I am getting this laptop ready by deleting old contacts I no longer need, sorting through documents I no longer need and deleting then - that kind of thing so that my son, who has offered to set it up for me when it comes, has an easier job.  Oh dear, the wonders of modern science.

The events in the Lebanon have cast a cloud (in more ways than one) over everything today - unimaginable chaos, destruction and loss of life.   I sat eating my breakfast this morning, looking out of the window and imagining - if it had been here then the whole of the little town would have been flattened, friends would have gone for ever, lives would have been destroyed - it doesn't bear thinking about.

Hopefully I will be back tomorrow but there will shortly be a gap while things are changed over.   See you soon.

Imagining what that explosion would be like is something us Sheppey people have lived with most of our lives.
About a mile and half out to sea from our sea front lies the wreck of an American ship, the "Richard Montgomery". It was full up completely with a mixture of explosives for our war effort in WW2 and anchored there overnight. Unfortunately it anchored over a sand bank and as the tide dropped it broke it's back and sunk. Some cargo was recovered but most was left on it and it's been there ever since and any resultant explosion is reckoned to flatten much of Sheppey. Having lived with that threat for 70 odd years most of us have ceased to worry about it but it's still there and not far away.
Another hot and sunny day with hot, gusty winds.

Good decision. You will feel happier typing away on a laptop than you would on an ipad. Horses for courses.

Good luck with your new computer and yes.... Beirut, Lebanon..... I can't even imagine. Those poor people. Love, Andrea xoxo

Getting a new computer is always fun when trying to figure out how to make it all work right! It should be fairly straightforward and, thank goodness, you have your son handy to help you out!
Enjoy your day!!

Take care Weave. I hope your fall caused no injury. Hopefully the nurse can make some recommendations. A shiny new laptop sounds outstanding. Get one with a few bells and whistles. We just had a fast moving hurricane. High winds and pelting rain. Luckily no power outage and no trees down on my property. Yay - A free pass!

. . . . but you can use a laptop on your lap if you need to! I agree an iPad is not practical, especially for those of us now having vision problems, and unless they've improved being able to blog and post photos on the iPad, it was useless when I tried to use one years back. I sold mine to a teen who knew all the ins and outs for what she wanted to do, and it certainly was nothing to do with blogging! Enjoy your new one - glad your son is helpful.

Please take care - no more falls!
The explosion was unbelievable - I know several families here in Raleigh who still have relatives in Beirut - hope so much they are safe.
Mary -

The auto-correct on my ipad drives me spare and I rarely use it. Our business computers are Dell and perform well. His is a laptop, mine a full screen and sloping keyboard. I like Windows 10, but no doubt there will be upgrades of that in due course, but your new laptop will be much faster and able to cope for quite a few years.

I new have a programme of balance exercises which seem very good so hopefully we shall see an improvement.

I dread the day when I have to replace my laptop. I recently had two new telephones - a landline and mobile - and coming to terms with those is bad enough.
Glad you have some exercises to help your balance. I think I could do with some.
I hardly dare watch the news these days - there seem to be fresh horrors every week.

I'm sorry to read of your fall but I'm relieved you were not alone when it happened. I hope you didn't hurt yourself.
Terrible news of the explosion. What more will this year bring? X

I have had Dell computers for many years and have been happy with them. I currently have a Dell desktop computer and a Samsung tablet. I enjoy the tablet but I would never replace a computer with one. If you are accustomed to a desktop computer it should be easier to change to a laptop computer than to a tablet. I think you can do much more on a computer than a tablet as well but that is just my opinion.

I hope the exercises for balance you were given help you. Falls can be frightening. Take care Pat.

Staying with a machine similar to the one you know is a wise decision. I have a MacBook Air and an iPad, and I find it much simpler to move things around, or edit photos on the MacBook than on the iPad, and there is no Word document on it either. I love its portability, and the screen is easier to read than a phone, but that's about all.

I don't like the sound of that fall Pat! Obviously you did no serious damage, but I do hope the balance exercises help.

Keep well and safe.

Enjoy that new laptop!

I agree that you made the better decision. Stick with something you know, and an iPad doesn't really have a word programme on it. I hope you enjoy the new one. -Jenn

With all the problems they have in Lebanon, they really didn't need such a disaster on top. Poor people; I feel so sorry for them.

SENSITIVE POST. I too imagined the devastation of that explosion and your comparison brought it home even more. Good for you with a new computer. I, however am a confirmed Mac user.

I have had a dell laptop since last year and really like using it. Before that I had a desktop and couldn't imagine getting used to the smaller screen but it's so quick and relatively easy to use - wouldn't be without it now! I also bought a little external hard-drive and copied everything from my desktop onto that photos etc are easily accessible but don't take up lots of space on the laptop.

Thank you all. There seems to be a lot of reinforcement for a laptop rather than an ipad - and I do use my word programme a lot. My new computer is ordered and as soon as it arrives my son will call and take my desktop so that he can transfer things and set it up for me.

Good luck with the new computer, usually it just takes a few days and a couple of blog posts to get the feel of a newer model.

It was so sad to watch the news and see the devastation both to life and property over in Lebanon. It seems like there is nothing but heartrending news these days.

Natural herbs have cured so many illnesses that drugs and injection can"t cure. I’ve seen the great importance of natural herbs and the wonderful work they have done in people’s lives. i read people’s testimonies online on how they were cured of herpes, hiv, diabetics etc by Dr. Nogadu herbal medicine, so i decided to contact the doctor because i know nature has the power to heal anything. I was diagnosed with HIV for the past 7 years but Dr. Nogadu cured me with his herbs and I referred my aunt and her husband to him immediately because they were both suffering from herpes and they were cured too .I know it is hard to believe but am a living testimony.
