Temptation and the best laid plans.

Quick post as I want to watch Michael Portillo's new series at eight.   I had to have a rest after doing an hour's gardening - not easy for me these days.

Today is the day when my local fresh food comes - shopped for me by a lovely local lady.   I therefore intended to have a really healthy lunch of tuna. hard boiled egg, salad leaves, coleslaw, beetroot and cherry tomatoes.  Then on my morning walk with Percy I met a friend and we had a 'distanced' chat.   The conversation turned (as it does!) to oven chips and I said how I didn't really like them.   She said she never did them in the oven but shallow fried them in oil.   During the short distance to home I had decided to add that to my salad plate.   And she was quite correct - they were delicious.  So much for my healthy eating lunch!

See you tomorrow.

Ooh, such temptation. I don't eat them but I do cook them for my husband. I do them in my countertop halogen cooker and they turn out very crispy.
Glad that you enjoyed yours.

Few things tempt me more than chips - which is why I have to steer clear of them. I sometimes pinch a few off my grandson's plate.

That does it, I'm buying oven bake chips next shopping trip. I've been holding back, looking as I pass the freezer unit.

I used to like to fry sweet potatoe chips. Very nice.

I have dry-fried them in pan. It works too!

I found oven chips dried out too much in the oven. Many is the time I've popped them in the deep fay fryer for a few minutes. Problem solved now as I'm no longer allowed to eat chips.

I've had chips with my burger at the pub earlier this week. It was lovely to sit on the sunny market square of my home town, glass of cider in hand, crispy chips on the plate. Wouldn't want that every day, but every now and then it is very welcome.

The only part of this scrumptious lunch that puzzles me is the tuna. Why eat tuna at all? I never touch the stuff. Your plate was already perfect without.

Once upon a time there were simple days, when a chip pan and basket, filled with melted lard, sat on many cookers in the land. Then the diet police told us we were wrong. Are we any thinner?

Think I'd swap the tuna for salmon, I always find tinned tuna a dry fish to eat, unless you mix it with mayonnaise.

Pat , I have enjoyed your blog for a long time now. This morning I went to Kirkby Lonsdale and I always think of you when I am there. Sadly the Italian restaurant Avanti, you used to visit with your friends seems to be closed down. Hopefully you will be able to find another suitable dining place when the time is right to venture forth again. Best wishes and keep well

Yes Jean you are quite right - Avanti has indeed closed down. Sigh.

Rachel. I eat tuna at least once a week either with a salad or in a sandwich - I almost prefer it to salmon. I do agree with Derek thought that it benefits from some mayo.

Veg artist. Melted lard? In Lincolnshire it was beef dripping

Thanks for all your foodie contributions.

Oh Chips! Almost as good as chocolate. I like the sound of that tip for oven chips shallow fried but wouldn't trust myself to keep a pack in the freezer.

Natural herbs have cured so many illnesses that drugs and injection can"t cure. I’ve seen the great importance of natural herbs and the wonderful work they have done in people’s lives. i read people’s testimonies online on how they were cured of herpes, hiv, diabetics etc by Dr. Nogadu herbal medicine, so i decided to contact the doctor because i know nature has the power to heal anything. I was diagnosed with HIV for the past 7 years but Dr. Nogadu cured me with his herbs and I referred my aunt and her husband to him immediately because they were both suffering from herpes and they were cured too .I know it is hard to believe but am a living testimony. There is no harm trying herbs. He is also a spell caster, he casts spells to restore broken marriages and good luck spells to prosper and excel in life.
