Nothing day today.

Really today has been a sort of 'nothing day'.   We did have a nice 40 minute Zoom chat this morning which was a good start to the day.   Then I had a list of things to do.   These days I never get to the end of my list and today was no exception.   First of all I soaked and disinfected all my coffee mugs.   As with all my 'washing up' everything goes through the dishwasher, but because I don't take milk in my tea the mugs do tend to stain inside - living alone means I dont have my dishwasher on every day.   So I soaked all of them in a weak Domestos and water for half an hour and then gave them a good wash in hot soapy water.   And while they were in soak I gave the cupboard a good wipe out.    One job ticked off.

Job two was also a kitchen job and one I seem to do quite often.   I emptied my 'everyday' cutlery drawer into hot soapy water and wiped out the drawer well and left it half an hour to dry.   Then I washed and drained all the cutlery and dried it and put it all back.    Job two ticked off and both made such an improvement.

Job three was to go through the bungalow with the vacuum cleaner.   And here I came completely unstuck because after I had done the sitting room I ran out of electricity and the machine needed a recharge.   So job three was not ticked off and instead I watered a few pots in the garden.

Salmon and cod fish pie with a mixture of carrots, peas, cauli and broccoli for my lunch and then a couple of hours with my feet up and that was my day done.

Sorry it was so boring.   I shall go now and read The Times.   Hopefully something a bit more exciting will happen tomorrow.

I think you achieved a lot today - not a nothing day at all. Have a nice relaxing evening. :)

Sounds like a very satisfactory day to me, with all those jobs done. I think you earned your rest with feet up.

A good tip for stained cups - a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in the cup with water. Leave to soak half an hour and the stain will easily come off, to be either washed in the sink or put in the dishwasher. Better for the environment than Domestos.

A quiet day without excitement is just what the doctor ordered. I had a quiet day today, even quieter than yours. I am surprised your dishwasher doesn't get the cups clean. I also do not take milk and my cups come out spotless and sparkling.

Mother used to soak hers in weak Clorox solution. I could not drink from the mugs for months after.

I think this is a problem for a lot of us. I am feeling more and more frustrated as the weeks go on. Boring jobs and nothing much to look forward to and not knowing when it will end.

Wow, your new haircut looks great! Love the glasses too. Keep it up, the everyday details of life are still interesting and have kept me reading since I discovered your blog a few years ago.

I think I can match your excitement. We are currently de-frosting our three freezers, moving frozen foods from one freezer to another, mopping up water, taking out lumps of ice, etc. Does life get more exciting?

I've had a dishwasher for about 25 years but for the last ten years it hasn't been used. Living on one's own most of the time means that I got out of the habit of using for the few items I make dirty every day and I always enjoy washing up by hand. I'm always fascinated by the cleaning jobs that you find to fill your day with, I don't think my cutlery drawer for instance, has been cleaned out in years.

Seems to me your 'nothing' is much more than most, besides-a nothing day is a necessity of life in my book. I always think 'excitement is over-rated' and when my mailbox is empty, I think 'no news is good news.'

There's a lot to be said sometimes for "boring". I've had times in my life when I would have given my eye teeth for just a few moments of "boring". I've learned to appreciate them in my latter years. ~Andrea xoxo

I cannot remember the last time I cleaned out my cutlery drawer.

Nothing days clutter the blogosphere, we all suffer from them, but then just think of all the miserable lives elsewhere in the world, and be grateful for a nothing day ;)

I try not to wish for excitement these days.

Weave you have such an open minded approach to life I was a little surprised you don’t have a smart phone. Let me explain; on it you can use WhatsApp. This free method of sending text, photos and video clips amongst a group or just between one friend and yourself is a marvellous way of keeping in touch without ‘anchoring’ yourself to a screen at a fixed time of day. I have been part of some quite deep discussions with a close group of friends while doing other things. Phoning ( free ) with a set of headphones and the phone in my apron pocket I chatted with a good friend for an hour last week while cleaning my oven! x

Not sure if it is your thoughts or language usage but you are never boring! Doing projects must be good for our soul or something!? Anyway, I love reading about your life and you inspire me to do a bit more in mine.

I hope I don’t sound like I’m lecturing. You sound like you have life pretty much sorted and that may be why your blog is so appealing.

My cutlery drawer only gets cleaned out if we have visitors coming to stay!

Anne - I was just about to go to an Apple store in Harrogate to buy an ipad when we all had to go into lockdown - I do intend to go down that route when or if life ever returns to any semblance of normal.

Thanks for all your cheery comments folks.
