This and thatu

Yet another good deed as J, who lives about ten doors away from me called with this Cottage Pie for my lunch today - minced beef, onions, carrots and peas with a topping of a mixture of potato and sweet potato and pieces of cheese.    I had it for my lunch and it was delicious.

Sitting doing The Times crossword this morning, still in my PJ's at ten thirty (not difficult when you have nowhere to go but a very slovenly habit I am in danger of developing) I heard a familiar sound and realised that my gardener was outside mowing the lawn - I needed other jobs doing, so I opened the door and from a distance asked him to move some pinks I had ordered last Autumn (9 different varieties, all of which have done well over Winter) then dashed and had my shower and dressed so that I was a bit more presentable!

The rest of my day has been spent trying to unblock my shredder which has blocked with bits of paper.   Using a knitting needle I have unblocked it all but one place and I just cannot get one piece of paper out.   I have emptied it, cleaned up the carpet, oiled it and left it for now and will try again another day.   In the meantime my shredder tray fills daily.  This is the second time it has happened and yet I am very careful how I use it - any advice anybody?

It hasn't been such a nice day here today - the sun has not put in an appearance, it has been a grey day and for much of the day it was not possible to see East Witton Fell.   Typical 'arrival of Easter' weather.   Happy Easter everyone - yes life will return to normal eventually and don't forget to go to the door at eight tonight and applaud our wonderful NHS Staff.

When my shredder jammed I managed to get that last bit of paper out with a pair of tweezers. It jams when I don't empty it often enough, if the shreds can't fall freely that seems to make it jam.

Are you not concerned about receiving food prepared at another household and the spread of coronavirus? I am glad you were able to enjoy your time unblocking the shredder and can offer no advice except to suggest that you only place one sheet in at time when it is working and to let that sheet fully shred before inserting the next sheet.

When I worked I was always jamming the shredder but I used to bring home the shredded paper for my compost heap so mostly I was forgiven. We must all be busy decluttering, I've emptied two big files here, I snipped up the incriminating evidence with scissors and they didn't jam once. Happy Easter.

It was very kind of your neighbour to make you a cottage pie. It looks pretty good from that photo.
As Heidi suggested, we have found a large pair of tweezers helps to tease out any paper stuck in our shredder's teeth. We have to be careful too with feeding one page at a time and waiting until the first has fully gone through before feeding in the next one.
I hope you manage to free it.

That cottage pie looks delicious - I can almost smell it!
I am sure your appearance is neat and nice no matter whether you are in your pajamas or not. Good to know your gardener still comes to do the work, for his own sake as much as for yours.

We bought the lubricating sheets. They get shredded and do their job at the same time. Seems to work well, haven't jammed ours in ages. (and I used to do quite the jam-up on occasion!)
Food has not been shown to transmit the virus. Perhaps its container could be wiped down for extra safety. https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/newsletter/food-safety-and-Coronavirus.html

It has been yet another cloudless, sunny and warm day here which made my cycle ride around here all the more enjoyable. Seems crazy that after one of the wettest winters on record that we now have flower borders cracking up and lawns going yellow.

Our shredder was always jamming... someone suggested that the adhesive portions of “Post-It notes” (are they called that in England?) and self adhesive envelopes were causing the issue. We tear off those bits to discard separately now and the issue is resolved.

Food may not have been shown to spread the virus but one household delivering a pot of food prepared in his/her kitchen to another household is against the self distancing recommendations and guidance. I personally would not do it nor accept it however well meant it was and knowing that Weave is not without food or incapable of preparation of food for herself.

I found the same as Kelly. My shredder was jamming and it turned out to be the adhesive from perscription labels I had pulled off pill bottles that was gumming up the blades. Now anything with adhesive on it I tear into little pieces or cut up with scissors. Your lunch looked very yummy!

For unjamming my shredder I use tweezers and/or a nail file. A bit tedious depending on how jammed up it is, but it/they work well. I've also found that sticky notes and anything similar also jams the blades.

Just done my 8pm clapping. I also did early claps for the window cleaner and bin men this morning when I was at my window and caught their eye.
That cottage pie looks delicious. What a kind neighbour.
Re the shredder, might running another sheet of paper through it release the trapped piece?
The sky is looking very hazy this evening but we have had a glorious day again. I believe the forecast is not so good for tomorrow but slightly better for Sunday, then cooler again. Good job I haven't put my woollies away!

Yes - I think you may well be right in that it would be sensible not to accept food from kind neighbours. I shall bear that in mind in the future.
Thanks also for the shredder tips.

Happy Easter everyone.

I hope you get that pesky shredder back in order. Have you tried forward and reverse with the switch to see if that loosens the bit?

Red said...

Reverse your shredder often and it will help to prevent plugging the shredder.

Make sure your sredded-bin is not over full.
Your lunch sounds wonderful.

Being me... I would give the shredder a good kicking. Like others have said about accepting gifts of food; I wouldn't recommend it. The only real problem is causing offence to the kind giver.

No shredder here - we burn the evidence!!

The meal looked very tasty but perhaps as others have said, a possibly hazardous gift at this time.

We had wall to wall sunshine here again yesterday, and it was LOVELY out, but now I have to listen to my body and go on proper house lockdown to avoid the pollen and let the steroids work. A right PITA that will be but just think of the sewing I will get done!

What a kind gift from your neighbour. Surely if you heated it thoroughly then the heat would destroy any harmful virus. Alternatively the microwave would do the same. As for the shredder, as others have suggested, a pair of tweezers is what I use.

Thanks everyone. I did my clapping and everyone was out - quite a moving experience I find each week.
I watched a programme on the virus last evening and I shall not be accepting any more gifts of food however well meant.

My shredder has a reverse option. When paper bits get stuck, I just reverse it and they get spit right out.
