Saturday

Today has been something of a non day, mainly because I slept so badly last night.   I sat up reading for a good part of the night and when I finally did drop off of course it meant that I slept in this morning and didn't wake until almost nine.  I was going to a virtual coffee morning at ten so it was all a bit rushed.   I might only be sitting on my computer chair but I could hardly attend in my P J's.

By the time I had cooked my lunch (lemon sole with Majorcan new potatoes, chantennay carrots and the rest of the spinach, followed by a baked apple stuffed with butter and honey and sat down with my cup of tea I dropped off again and woke up an hour later.   Just time to go out into the garden to water my sturdy hellebore seedlings.   I intend to transplant some of them into a pot so they need a good water so that I can do it tomorrow.   It is impossible to buy compost round here but luckily H, my neighbour - also a keen gardener - came round with a tub of her compost so I shall pot them on tomorrow.   They are so sturdy it seems a shame not to try to grow them on - some left in the garden by their 'mother' plant and some in a pot.

It has been another lovely day although the sun was slow to break through the cloud this morning and towards the end of the afternoon it clouded in again.   It is set to turn colder from the North and to get windy.   Typical gardening weather - just as my Pink Lady Iris is ready to bloom it is coming cold and the wind is going to increase.

I have just typed this while eating a bacon, brie and cranberry toastie - divine.   I shouldn't have had it really after that large lunch - but I just fancied it - and as the news about Covid 19 (we now have gone over the twenty thousand deaths)
was depressing news I decided to go ahead.    We have to try everything to keep cheerful don't we?

So keep calm and carry on seems to be the message today.   Take care everyone.

Your meals always sound so delicious they way you describe them. I actually don't know what some of the words mean and have to google them usually but it is fancier than saying "potatoes and carrots"! :) and then I have learned something! I think that it is wonderful that you treat yourself and the meals bring joy into your life! Such a nice example of finding happiness in simple pleasures. Thanks so much for your posts!

I must say that eating (perhaps a tad too much) has been keeping me cheerful. Sigh...

Oh my goodness. Bacon, brie and cranberry toastie. Sounds absolutely wonderful.
I am actually looking forward to some "bad" weather to keep my hay fever in check!

Well I've just had a great pile of spaghetti and two beers, and it's two hours until bedtime. I might have a cold limoncello before I retire! Reading in bed is the best sleeping draught I know. Hope you have a better sleep tonight.

Yes, your meals do always sound really good. You seem to have a talent with seasonings and such when cooking. I'm glad your neighbor has some compost you can use so you can do the gardening you had planned. It is a joy to watch the growth in what we plant. I have also been having some nights where I simply cannot sleep well or I get up in the middle of the night. I think it probably is just another side effect of the situation we are currently living with. I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. Enjoy your weekend and know you have many friends that care.

I am salivating at the thought of that toastie. Do your potatoes really come from Majorca? What about good old British spuds?

How lovely to have all those little plants to pot up.
Your lunch and teatime meals make me feel hungry again and I am desperately trying not to put on any weight after losing 2 stone last year!
I am bracing myself for cooler weather as we have been spoiled of late, but it has been so lovely even if a bit too warm for the time of year.
Hope you sleep well tonight. Keep safe.

Since Son has moved in to take care of me my meals are quite fabulous !
Sleeping is always a problem for me. I hope you will have a better evening tonight.

Hope you sleep well tonight and get those plants potted up tomorrow. The weather will change just as the flowers are starting to come out - I am running around trying to stake all the tall plants so they don't get broken by the wind.

Sounds like our weather, though the days are warming up a bit. My pot of zinnias has just begun to sprout.

I have both bacon and eggs in the fridge, so you've prompted me to have a decent Sunday morning breakfast! No point keeping all those treats for a later date. Live for now.

I too barely slept Friday night and didn't fare much better last night but then that's not unusual for me these days, or should I say nights. Have just got up here on Sheppey in N. Kent to clear blues skies, early sunshine but worryingly, as I left some plants out, a frost. But the day is forecast to be quite warm and sunny.
Susan Heather makes a valid point about your new potatoes - Majorcan. Too early for English new potatoes I guess but it shows how we still fail to buy produce from our own farmers - I wonder how much N.Z. lamb will be eaten today.

Funnily enough re potatoes - I just ordered new potatoes on my delivered Tesco order and they sent Majorcan ones but a friend who ventures down to our market (I have not been out for five weeks now) bought Cornish ones there so they are just coming in.
As for the bacon, brie and cranberry sauce toastie - this is a snack we have regularly on our usual jaunts out - usually served on a baguette (didn;t have one handy).

Thanks for all your comments

Pat, I have been dreaming of a bacon and brie sandwich or toastie for weeks! I guess tomorrow I shall buy the necessary ingredients and make myself one.
Sorry to hear you did not sleep well, but it sounds like your body made you catch up on the lost sleep, or at least part of it.
I am so much looking forward to Wednesday, when my 1 1/2 week off work begins and I may sleep as long as I wish in the mornings - not that I really do, but just knowing I won't be expected to sit at my work laptop at a certain time every day makes a big difference!
Hopefully, there will also finally be some rain next week. We've not seen a single drop of rain all month, and the soil is worryingly dry.

Your life at present seems to be a non-stop culinary delight.
I wish it could be a little warmer.

Keeping Cheerful is indeed the Challenge during Lock Down. Days rather blend and I do miss Working and that Income... but there are some definite Positive things about it also. We bought a New Home and had JUST moved in February 1st and of coarse everything went to Hell with the Pandemic right about then, so it gave me time to get to fully experience our New Home and unpack, decorate, probably in record time! *Smiles*
