This morning I really have to tell you just how kind folk are. We hear such a lot about the other side of the coin but I really am very lucky to be on the receiving end of kindness like the following. Yesterday, as I told you in my post, I really quite overdid it and was exhausted when I got home. I had a good night's sleep but awoke this morning still feeling pretty shattered. I am going out to lunch with friend D so needed to get going and go and do a bit of shopping and go to the bank - jobs I usually do on a Tuesday. I forgot to put out my dustbin and it is bin day.
When I came back from town the bin men were having their break right outside my bungalow. They had finished our estate completely I got out of my car and staggered across the road (with my stick as I am really going badly today) and told them I had forgotten to put out my bin - could they possibly take it late. Not only did they do that - they collected it from round the back of my bungalow, they returned it there after emptying it and they rang the depot and asked them to add me to the list of householders whose bins were to be collected rather than put out for them - in other words they will take my bin down the drive, empty it and bring it back up to my back gate. My drive is quite steep and if it is slippery then it is quite dangerous. The chap who did it also insisted on carrying my two shopping bags from my car and putting them into my hall. We do hear so much about unpleasant behaviour - isn't it good to hear about something like this. We know there are far more good people than bad around but it is nice to be reminded of it now and again. So many thanks to these bin men this morning - they have made my day.

Yes, most people are good people.
Great to hear the extent to which the gentleman helped you--with bin and bags.
It is always lovely when people are kind, do you leave a Xmas tip? Forgot my recycling today but it doesn't build up too much for the fortnightly take away.
This is a heart warming story Pat and you will find the future assistance by the bin men such a big help. We have the same system here and a couple of my elderly neighbors along the street have the service every Thurs. morning. We're still able to take ours to the curb, although the driveway is on a slope, and we bring our immediate neighbor's bins back up when getting ours.
Hope you have a good rest of the week. Do take care when you're out and about.
This brought tears to my eyes. God bless all who help others, especially the elderly. We are so often overlooked. The world is full of good people, but sometimes they're not just where they need to be when we need them.
A little goes a long way, doesn't it! For the friendly bin men, it is not all that much of an effort to get your bin from the back, down the drive, to their van and back to where it was, but it makes a big difference for you not having to do it on your own anymore.
In my experience, few people will decline a direct appeal for help in similar matters.
How kind of them. They deserve cake!
I used to send a £20 note to a godson who never acknowledged it until one year I decided to divert the money to our hard working bin men. They are a great bunch and always helpful and cheerful, doing a valuable job.
I always think paper girl, post lady and bin men are deserving of a Christmas tip.
A lovely story to read. I am smiling. I'm 75 and somewhat handicapped (hoping for a new hip in the future) and find people are very kind and helpful. They really are.
what a lovely experience. Yes it is nice to hear about good people doing good things.
I love this, what kind hearted men.
An act of kindness that makes such a difference to you, wonderful. Is it possible for you to let their bosses know, they do deserve recognition.
awwww this made me feel so good today
parsnip
What a blessing for you, such kind workers.
How lovely that your binmen were so helpful, and after today they will empty and return your bin, such a small but kind gesture.
In my neck of the woods, bins are collected, emptied and returned - daily.
So, no problem if you skip a day.
In addition, once a week,a special truck comes for oversize items only.
These things decide the political fate of those who wish to work at the municipality, especialy the mayor. So, they are of utmost importance and are well run.
Doubtless you will be writing to the supervisor of bin men to commend the men on their service and kindness. People are so quick to complain but so often a letter of commendation stays unwritten. Hope you are feeling better and ell rested after your busy day.
I have always had a sneaking feeling that bin men are gentlemen. Also one less thing for you to struggle with if they will collect your bin each week. Hope you will feel less tired tomorrow.
How wonderful! Most people really are kind but it is always the few bad apples that people talk about. Thank you for telling us about the good ones!
Great story. Those who have a positive attitude usually receive the same back.
Where would we be without our bin men! Their praises are too often unsung. When my brother was small and he'd be asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he always replied either an eye doctor or a bin man, both being the men he admired the most.
Thanks everyone. Our Customer Services at the Council Offices have a telephone line which says that all their phone calls are recorded for Training Purposes - I left a message on that and am also thinking of writing to our local paper.
Three cheers for your binmen.
Thank you for sharing this heart warming story. It really is the small things in life like this that make for a better brighter point in someone's life. :)
You put the smile back in my day, dear Weaver.
What kind men! This made me feel so hopeful and happy. After the Terrible One's "State of the Union" speech I have been feeling so discouraged. Might as well have been his "State of My Campaign". But your bin men--now those are the people who make this world a good place.
There are good people everywhere, unfortunately with all the rude ones around they tend to be hidden!
Thanks to you all - it is now early in the morning of Thursday and I too will start the day with a smile on my face. xx
That is nice and kind of them.
So good to hear of such kindness Pat. Everyday acts that will make a real difference to you. Take care if we have colder weather in the next few days. DWx
Aww … that's lovely.
We hear so much about all the bad things and bad people in the world I think it's time to flood the internet with stories of good people and nice things.
Your binmen are a good start, what lovely chaps, and the thing is you will have made their day too, people love to help others :-)
This is such a heart-warming post. Small kindnesses can make a difference to ones day. I know that I'm biased but I do find that the Dales folk take more time to engage and respond to people than where I live in the south west of the country.
OH! This was wonderful to hear.
