Temptation

Today I am finally succumbing to temptation and buying myself an ipad.   I have held out against the advice of friends for a long time, but I have gradually begun to see how useful it will be and so today's the day I order it.   Friend H, who lives next door, is coming round this afternoon to talk about it with me and then the die will be cast.

Storm clouds have gathered, rain has started and the wind is getting up.   I am just hoping Rachel is right in her comments yesterday when she said that the storm would peak out in the Atlantic.   My son's village can definitely not cope with any more water.   They have the sandbags out and are doing all they can but the power of water is unstoppable.   I will continue this post later in the day when we see how it has developed.

Well it has rained heavily all day and the strength of the wind has increased but during the evening the rain has stopped.   I have just looked out of the front door and the wind is strong but it is fine.   The trouble is that because of the hills the water comes down the hills long after the rain has stopped so we shall not know for a while yet whether we have escaped the worst of it.   Fingers crossed.

Good for you Weave. As much as I have come to despise the Apple Corporation, I know no other system and I am stuck with it. The storm comes on the tail of the other one, so I hope your son's drains can cope.

I hope you will enjoy the ipad. Why did you get one ?
Personally I despise any Apple product. So much money grubbing, elitist, hypocrite, woke, company. .
Family bought me a Samsung Tablet for Christmas and I am learning how to use it. Comprise vision in my right eye so I hope this will work for me.
Looking forward to your comments .

I think you will love your iPad. I spend way too much time with mine. I go for days without going into my computer room because I do everything on my iPad. I'm sure your friends will tell you about all the fun things to do on it---including reading blogs.

My wife has an iPad, and she loves it. Personally I couldn't cope with the tiny keypad for typing; I need something the size of my laptop.

Like Parsnip, I have a Samsung tablet which is an Android version of the ipad and I absolutely love it! It is easy to take to any room in the house and use where ever you are comfortable. You can read blogs, search the internet, read books, watch programs or really do just about anything you would do on your computer in a more portable format. I still love my computer but I would not be without my tablet.

I do hope the worst of the storm stays away and you are able to enjoy the remainder of your weekend. Take care.

I think I may have to do something similar as my laptop is rather elderly. When I do replace it I shall get the same model as my daughter has so she can give me instruction.
I hope everywhere is safe from severe flooding, though I imagine there must be some. I think the press have overstated the severity of this latest storm as it didn't seem as bad as last week, though some of the gusts did seem a bit stronger. We certainly haven't had a much rain this time.

How exciting! I love my iPad and find it so useful and transportable. And I love being able to enlarge photos or text to see better. Give yourself time to get used to it. I needed my family to help when I forgot how to do things. It all comes so naturally to the young, but it’s worth persevering with. The grandchildren have very strictly rationed screen time, but the other day I needed to keep the just turned two year old awake, so let her watch a thing called VideoTouch where each time you touch the picture a different clip of an animal comes up. I left her while I sorted a nappy and when I came back, she’d exited that programme, swiped across till she found the logo for YouTube for kids, opened it, swiped across until she saw a programme she liked, and opened it!! I was amazed!
I do hope you love it too.

I trust you will keep the lap top for typing at speed for letters, reports etc. I advise that you do if you had considered not doing so.

I hope you get on well with the ipad. I've never used one, I just switch between my laptop and my phone.
Another sleepless night here, thanks to the storm. Fortunately I was prepared this time so there weren't any drips but I will be getting someone to have a good look at the roof very soon.
I hope your son's village has escaped too much damage. X

Here in West Wales the winds were not as strong nor the rainfall as heavy as last week, but parts of South Wales have suffered badly this time, and flood warnings continue in many places in England and Scotland, as rainfall makes its way downstream, having fallen on already sodden land. It's not over yet!
As far as an ipad goes, I use mine for iplayer and looking things up, but typing is annoying. The auto-correct can make life very difficult!!

I am typing this comment from an ipad, it is O.K.'s old one that he passed on to me when he bought himself a new one. I use mine when travelling, but when it comes to typing longer emails, blog posts and the like, I much prefer my computer with the proper keyboard.

Just popped in to see how you are doing in this dreadful weather , especially thinking about your son's village .What a night ! Trees down and flooding here too ,but not as bad as you are getting it . Yes the water keeps coming off the fields here too long after the rain stops . Hoping it drains away quickly for you all there and everyone o.k . Debs x

Thanks Rachel for the advice - I had already decided to keep mylap top for any typing.
I think on balance it is going to enhance my life - only time will tell. My friend and I are going to th Apple Shop in Harrogate to have a good look in a couple of weeks.

You should definitely get an iPad if your other devices are Apple. If your other devices are on another system then an iPad might not be the best option.

If possible, get an ipad cover that doubles as a keyboard and that will hold the ipad at an angle for viewing. It also helps protect the screen. The keyboard connects to the ipad via bluetooth. You periodically need to charge the keyboard, but it is easy to do. I have one for my samsung tablet and it is easy to type on and the it holds the tablet at an angle for typing and viewing which means you can put it down to watch things, rather than continually holding the tablet or trying to prop it up against something. Not sure what is available for apple products. Good luck.
