Friday

Sorry, in spite of my promise to  return 'tomorrow' I just never had time yesterday, so here we are at tea time on Friday - the first time I have a few minutes to spare.   This morning it was coffee with friends as usual and then home for about ten minutes and then out with friend W to go to a big Craft Fair in the town at our Auction House.   Hundreds there and a long queue to get in which was well-directed so didn't take long.   Huge crowds looking round so very noisy.   Luckily we were walking on carpet so it wasn't too hard on my ankles and I managed to walk round reasonably easily.   It wasn't all that exciting I'm afraid, although I had on my list to buy two presents for Christmas and I managed to tick those off so felt quite pleased with myself.   Then it was down to The Three Horseshoes in Wensley for lunch - quiche, salad and chips for me and cottage pie with broccoli and carrots for W - delicious (they make the best quiche around).   Then it was home.

It really has been a beautiful day here - full sun, no breeze and a clear blue sky all day and although the temperature was quite low there was a lot of warmth in the sun.   But of course I have a white car and as I drove up to the garage door I realised just how very dirty it was.    I had a sit down and a cup of tea, then Tess and I together drove the mile to the Car Wash where two nice young men made my car sparkling again.   At last, after at least a month, the roads are dry today so it was worth a risk and I do feel better driving a clean car.

Now it is almost time for The Repair Shop (such a good and interesting programme) and I shall wish for no tea after that large lunch, but a cup of tea will be very welcome, so off to make one and then sit with my feet up and marvel at the absolute skill of the people doing the repairs.   Hopefully see you tomorrow.

Another pleasantly busy day for you, and this time with sunny weather, too!
The queue for the crafts fair would have put me off, and I can imagine the noise that a crowd of shoppers and visitors make will make it difficult for you with your hearing aid; at least that is what my partner's father says.
Good to have some of your Christmas preparations already done! I will hopefully sit down to write a first batch of cards early next week, it takes me so long writing by hand as my handwriting is nearly impossible to read but of course I strive to make my cards legible to the recipients.

I too think the Repair Shop is a brilliant programme. The back stories of some of the articles taken in are really touching and I am in awe of the repairers, especially the lovely Will. Pollie.

I often hear of something new when reading your posts, today it was the program The Repair Shop. I read about Wendy Cope here and ordered her Two Cures For Love, a wonderful book.

I'm just totally in awe at the skill and patience of those who do the repairs.

The duty of the wealthy man is to employ the artisan.

Or so it used to be. We could use some of your sunshine over here. Every time I poke my nose out the door or window it gets wet.

So pleased you had some sunshine today too. It has been beautiful down here - very cold but no wind and lots of sun. The perfect winter weather as far as I am concerned.
Your lunch sounds delicious and I too watched the Repair Shop. The ship's wheel was my favourite item today, though I loved the little sailor doll too. What beautiful and unusual treasures we are treated to every day and what wonderful stories they have to tell.

When I used to drive on trips/business I always started out with a clean car. Just made it feel right.

A bright sunny day helps to improve the mood a long way.

The Repair Shop is always interesting. I watched most of it yesterday, but failed to see how the ship's wheel ended-up. I still shudder when I see that horrible sign outside the barn.

The beautiful days are much appreciated after overcast, rainy ones, I think. We've also been in a long overcast, very humid (though not chilly - too warm, in fact) time. I'm ready for some cool sunny days.

We enjoy The Repair Shop; too - so much emotion tied up in some of these wonderful old items and it's so good to see them restored.

We've had a couple of sunny days, but bitterly cold today. They had frost higher up our valley but we just escaped it.

Your meal out sounded lovely (as always) and oh gosh, our car desperately needs cleaning too. My husband spends more time cleaning it underneath though, and when we get home I think oh lordy, I am going to have to get my bucket of soapy water and sponge out to do the job properly!
