First steps

The village beyo nd where I live now, the village so severely flooded ten days ago, is just beginning to pick up the pieces.  There are skips placed around the place for folk to throw rubbish into.  Everyone (bar one) is pulling together and tomorrow the lane where my son lives makes a start on resurfacing - weather permitting.   As I type this cloud is building outside and the air is getting more and more humid.   Just as the forecast said it would.  It is draining any semblance of energy from the limbs.   I do  hope it doesn't hold things up tomorrow.

The less said about the one in brackets above the better but I suppose the least we can say is that it has drawn the rest of the village closer together.

Heaps of debris lie around everywhere - whole kitchens torn out and piled up ready to dump in the skip.   Not sure I could cope with any of it.

Well, onward and upward.   I have friends for the weekend - fridge to be thoroughly cleaned out before my Tesco order arrives early in the morning.

You've intrigued me now, so what is "the one in brackets" doing, or not doing, that gets bad marks.

Sorry I have missed your recent posts but am pleased that you have escaped the flooding. Enjoy your weekend with friends.

I suppose being flooded is like many things in life - makes us feel quite weak at the thought of having to face it, but once there's no choice, well, we just have to get on with it. Like Derek, I'm intrigued about (?).

Necessity is the mother of invention. You would have coped. Don't over do it: it's not four in a bed with everyone looking for dirt when they stay, I hope.

Looks like you could get more rain over the next couple of days, we, unfortunately, as usual, won't be. On the local news the water companies have just been showing how depleted the underground water supplies are.
Your obsession with cleanliness does seem to rather put unnecessary pressure on you when it comes to having guests.

My week end visitors are my oldest and best friends - so no problem there. I just like everything to run smoothly. I think that after many years running a large department in a Comprehensive School, where everything had to be well-organised, I just can't get out of the habit.

I hope that the weather holds off until your son's road is fixed. As for the folk emptying their houses,my heart goes out to them. The insurance companies aren't exactly swift at making a settlement either are they?

Don't overdo it with having the fridge pristine.

I hope the weather doesn't interfere with the clean-up process for the flooded village. Sad that not everyone 'sings from the shame hymn sheet'. It must be heartbreaking for everyone affected by the flood.
Hope you have a lovely weekend with your visitors. You can always have a day off when they have returned home!

I keep my sink and stove clean. The hell with the fridge.

Thankfully, I do not live close enough any waterways to be flooded, but I feel sorry for everyone who's had to cope with it, some people more than once. Hopefully, the lane near your son's will be repaired.
I know what you mean about wanting things to run smoothly with visitors. Even when it is "just O.K." who stays at my place regularly every other weekend, I want everything to be neat and tidy and prepared, first to make my guest(s) welcome, and second to enjoy their company to the full, without having to think I should be doing this or that of household chores.

In answer to Librarian - there's neat and tidy and there's over the top spotless. Other than my partner, who like O.K. visits every 2-3 weekends, I don't encourage visitors and so tidy is the best it gets in my place. Trying to maintain anything more than that must drive a person insane.

Isn't there always ONE! It's so annoying when these selfish people rear their ugly heads. But really it's says more about them then anything else.
