An ordinary day

Quite an ordinary day although very busy.   Walking with Tess early then into town for coffee with E and C and a nice chat.   C has just got a new grandchild - a little boy called Alvin - and so of course we had to see photographs.   He is so tiny and so adorable.  Then it was a bit of food shopping, a call in at the bank and then home again to await my son calling to collect me plus ironing board to take to the tip (board too big for my little Corsa).   On the way back we called at our Homeware shop and chose a new ironing board so now I need to whip up the enthusiasm for ironing.

H called to take Tess for a walk and they went once again to the Himalayan Gardens near Masham.   As they are mostly rhododendrons the gardens close to the public after one more week.  Tess adores it there and it was several hours before she returned home - long enough to give W and I time to go into town for a lunch of fritata and salad followed by rhubarb and strawberry crumble with ice cream.

Now, at a quarter to five, time at last to sit down and read posts and put this on.   While writing it I have just eaten six Scottish strawberries - I never remember  the strawberries being as sweet as this year or the season going on for so long.

My son has just rung - and we are going to have a Chinese for tea - I have ordered sweet  and sour prawns with rice, so now it is time to set the table ready for them coming round.   Never a dull moment.

How do you manage to fit it all in?! All sounds good.

I like the name Alvin. It reminds me of some great party nights when I was 'between jobs' in the seventies and chewed the fat with Shane Fenton later to become world famous as Alvin Stardust. One time a girl jumped out of a cake. It was almost like a scene in The Godfather.

Enjoy your Chinese. I'm a bit of a sweet and sour man myself.

I don't know where you put all this food you eat. I felt full up just reading about it.

I agree with Rachel your lunch time meal would be more than enough for me for the day

My uncle was like you, he could still manage three good meals a day and was fit and healthy until he died in his sleep at aged 97!

I hope the ironing has been out off for a little while. Enjoy the chinese meal. One of my favourites.

I had to buy a new ironing board recently as mum's old one finally bit the dust - it began getting lower and lower!! welding gone on it. New one much lighter and user-friendly.

Strawberries - oh, I can just taste them now! Sweet and Sour is one flavour I never got on with - though for years the only Chinese food I would even try was Prawn Fried Rice.

Sounds like a very positive day.

That was a busy day but a pleasant one by the sound of it. I had Chinese take away this evening as well. I was expecting my daughter to drop in, and she phoned to ask if I would like her to bring a take away in. It was delicious, of course.
Enjoy christening the new ironing board.

I couldn't believe the cost of the new ironing boards - the most expensive was eighty pounds and mine - a quite ordinary one - was forty. Almost enough to dissuade me from ironing in future.

What a shocking price! I hope I never have to replace mine - it is probably as old as yours was. Unfortunately, I don't think I could go without one as there are still some things in my wardrobe that just have to be ironed.

Thanks for filling us in on cost. Some of us may swear off ironing when the old board breaks.

Happy New Ironing Board!
My present ironing board is nearing 30 years, an inexpensive bit of metal. I also have a nearing 50 year old sewing machine, that still works well. They are like old friends.

I can't remember how much my ironing board cost, but I have seen some ridiculously expensive ones in the shops, too. Mine must have been cheap because it's been here for many years and I had very little money back then. Also, even now with a bit more money to spend, I would never splash it out on an expensive board.
Your lunch sounds delicious!
The Himalayan Gardens are on my list of places I want to see, too, and they are not all that far from Ripon.

Mmmm, I wonder if I'll ever wear out my ironing board??? It seems unlikely, though it might collapse from shock if I get it out.

Had to laugh at Rachel's comment. It reminded me of a Mr Bean in a posh restaurant sketch.

One time I saw a man run up Ben Nevis with an ironing board.
