Where is the heat?

Heat is across large parts of mainland Europe - set to get up into the forties over the next week - I just hope that John (Going Gently), who certainly needs and deserves a holiday, misses the over the top heat due to arrive in Spain.

Here the temperature this afternoon peaked at a measly thirteen degrees and it rained all day.   I hardly dare say it but I succumbed at six o'clock this evening, after returned from a gruelling session at the Physiotherapists, to putting the thermostat on the central heating up to twenty - and it has been on all evening.   Now, at a quarter to eleven, I am warm at last.

Why am I so late going to bed you may ask?   My son bought himself a banjo today, brought it round and we have been playing banjo and ukulele duets.  He has gone now and I need to get on a more even keel before I go to bed.   At the moment I am having a bad attack of tinnitus, which has lasted since last Friday, and the duets have helped it not one little bit!

The heat is here. 24C when I got off the train this afternoon. I had the roof open on the car I was so hot.

We are not warm, either. Sigh.

37 C here today. Luckily I mowed the whole property yesterday, so today I shall confine myself to the pool. I shall do NOTHING.

The child star of 'A kid for two Farthings', a friend of my wife's called Jonathan Ashmore, is now a professor at University College London. He researched into Tinnitus, and could be worth consulting. I'm sure I read somewhere that he'd suggested something quite simple that could help. It's worth a try.

It is all here, the heat that seems to be avoiding your part of the world, Pat.
We've had 35C yesterday and it is supposed to get to 38-39 today. Not the best temperature for working at an office with no air conditioning, but there you go. I like summer and just hope we'll be getting enough rain in between to keep our woods, orchards, fields, vineyards and gardens alive.

Banjo and ukelele duets sound fun, unfortunate you got tinnitus. Weather here yesterday was blanket drizzle all day but not cold.

Love the idea of banjo and ukelele duets, sorry it's not a bit warmer up your way, it's just a nice temperature here but too humid

It's a pity tinnitus isn't more tuneful isn't it? Mine is a monotone buzzing. Nice and cool in Lincolnshire!

Just arrived back here on Sheppey early this morning (Weds) to yet another very grey and murky morning with a chilly breeze, my fourth day with no sun on the trot. Clearly lucky Rachel must be living in some micro climate that few in the rest of this country are experiencing.

Cool and damp here today. We get little spells where the sun comes through - it was warm and humid on Monday when we viewed a house in the Welsh Marches and lunched in Hay. Ifor one don't want a heat wave, though thank heavens our house is cool and refreshing even on the hottest day. I can't go out and sit in it (pollen) and just have to sit indoors looking out which is no fun! I hope that you get some warmer weather soon anyway.

Since we will be sat selling in a gigantic glass house in 10 days' time, a heatwave (like last year) is the LAST thing we want!!

It's been warm and sticky down here, and wet as well. I think the weather has heard of all the hot air currently circulating in the UK and has missed us out completely with any summery days. I do hope the tinnitus has abated, but how nice to play duets with your son. Keep warm, and dry!

You seem to be in a little cool spot Weave. So the banjoes don't drown out the tinnitus?

Thanks for commenting. As for the tinnitus -I am very deaf and have had tinnitus for years - it comes and goes. One thing is constant when it does come - my left ear and my right ear together create a major third. It is beginning to fade this morning so know from experience that it is on its way out.

I have tinnitus the whole time. It never goes.

Please have someone make a little video of you and your son playing - would love to hear you!

My husband has tinnitus also - all the time but usually much worse during flights when he hears "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Silent Night" playing nonstop! How crazy is that!

Very hot here - all week we have temperatures reaching 96F (38C) by mid-afternoon, but fortunately the humidity is not too bad. As for the mosquitoes, I won't even go there - BUT I must say as we decided not to have the spray service this year like last, we can see a difference. . . . . . and I'm getting bitten a lot!

Right now we are having the house and gazebo power washed, and exterior of windows cleaned (I can't do it myself anymore!) - I'm sitting here watching the dirt run down the windows and looking forward to a sparkling clean cottage for the upcoming holiday weekend!

Hope you feel better soon Pat.

I am sorry that your tinnitus is keeping you awake. Mine comes and goes but varies. Sometimes it is like the distant roar of Niagara Falls and sometimes it is just a high pitched whistle. It is very warm over here today. I hope it reaches you soon.

Thanks everyone. Always easier to bear when I hear you all have tinnitus.
