Out to lunch

What a change!!   Friend D and I went out to lunch and as the cafe side of our Tennants restaurant was very full we walked across to the Restaurant and had a lovely light lunch.  D had salmon with saute potatoes and braised fennel and I had exactly what I had last week - lobster and crab beignettes, deep friend cheese cubes, heritage tomato salad and pea shoots.  Then a coffee each and a good chat about the state of things.   And I managed to get home in time for friend S, who very kindly takes Tess for a walk on Wednesday afternoons for me.   Now Tess has had her tea and I am about to settle down to watch the antiques programme with a bit of tea myself.

It is still not warm - about fifteen here - but the sky has brightened somewhat and everywhere has dried up very well.   All the standing water had gone and things are looking up although it is not forecast to get really warm.

I have made a policy not to watch the News until all the political stuff is over and done with.   I find it all so upsetting - we can do little about it and everyone, but everyone,  seems to be at one another's throats over so many issues.   So I intend to think of better things.   Cowardly it may be but I have to keep my sanity - and I can do little to influence anything anyway.

Enjoy your evening.

It’s 15C here in Norfolk with a stiff cold breeze.

Add 20, and you get to our current temperature. Work was exhausting today in the overly warm office, and I left an hour early as I simply could not concentrate properly anymore.
What is a heritage tomato salad?

I don't watch any TV news, the images are often very disturbing and used to stick with me. Now I stay informed by reading newspapers (I subscribe to the local paper) and reading online news. That lunch with a friend sounds delightful.

I too am heartily sick of the political backbiting and have given up trying to make sense of it all. 20 degrees here today and a beautiful sunny evening. Not sure how long it will last but we shall enjoy it while we can. I hope your weather perks up for you soon.

If you're waiting for the current bunch of MPs to be civil to each other then you'll not be watching the news for a while! We're promised 28C (82F) for the weekend - we'll see.

Here on Sheppey this evening we have a strong and chilly NE wind blowing in off the Thames Estuary, bringing in grey cloud and blowing the flowers off the plants. All the reports of a heatwave just the other side of the Channel seem like people talking about another planet, as I put a thicker jumper on.

Me too.

Thirteen has been the temperature here in the Dales all day but now in late evening the sky has cleared and is blue for the first time in days. Everywhere has dried up and slightly warmer weather forecast for tomorrow. We shall see.

Not exactly a summer day here either but no rain. Your lunch sounds absolutely delicious and I would have chosen the same. As for the news - it just makes me feel angry and helpless. I am fed up with our politicians.

Yes, your political stuff has come down to our level.

Not watching political news on television has nothing to do with cowardice and everything to do with, as you say, maintaining sanity and lessening how upset it makes you feel.
Life is too short to allow politics to spoil your day.

I thought you had given up tv news a long time ago when we discussed it before. Oh well.

Watching the news here in the United States makes me feel frustrated, angry, terribly sad, and mentally frazzled. The hateful politics, and worst of all, news of the young children, sick, hungry, with no soap and water to clean themselves in the concentration camps at our border. I would like to just ignore it, but somehow I feel like I must keep an eye on things because I fear what awful thing people in power here may decide to do next.

Rachel - you are quite right to remind me. I just forget and start watching it again. Shall try harder.
