Thursday

All I need to say about the weather today is that it is downright cold.   Any tender plant which has popped its shoots above ground must be seriously thinking of popping back down again.   But we have had several downpours, which has meant I have not had to water my new plants.   And still on the garden front I have a great pile of rockery stones I don't want and which are heaped up at the end of the garden.   This morning my hairdresser happened to mention that they are building a rockery in their new garden.  Problem solved.

The Mares tail weed which grows rampant in my garden has not yet appeared but I am sure it will.   My gardener has one more application of the specialised weedkiller left and will put it on when the time is right (when the shoots are a certain length).   The label says it will take five years to kill it all and that perhaps it is best to cover the whole area with ground cover and live with the wretched weed.   I am still thinking on that one.   But at present that corner of the garden is left clear and empty.

Must away to check my market shopping list for morning.   See you tomorrow.

Update at seven in the evening.   We have had a massive thunderstorm with downpour.   Plants flattened, but now the sun is out again they are beginning to recover.    Still plenty of black clouds around though.

Well, after missing out on the rain, we are back to a combination of warm sunshine and wind which are sucking more moisture from the ground.
Apparently there is a Storm Hannah due to arrive tomorrow evening.

It's certainly more seasonal today. Although I'm missing the warm sunshine already, the gardens will be thankful for the showers. X

Perhaps you could cover the offending corner with your excess rocks and make an ancient Greek/Roman feature of it? It is cooler here too today and showery. Not enough for the garden I fear. Enjoy your market day.

No meaningful rain down here yet, just a bit of wind and some big clouds. The mares tail will surely spread to the rest of the garden if you don't keep on top of it.

Sunny and warm here today again, but much colder weather is forecast from tomorrow onwards. I will take advantage of the evening sun and go for a run with my friend.

A very mixed day here with quite heavy showers. Glad I did my shopping yesterday.

We had rain, then it has cleared up and gotten a little windy (very good for pollen disposal, hmmm . . .) Glad your rockery rocks have found a new home and the recipient will be delighted.

Hope it's warmer tomorrow though Named Storms are Not Good!

John we are trying very hard with the Mares Tail - specialised weed killer, liming the soil (it doesn't like lime) and gently cutting off anything that comes above ground - don't pull it or that just makes it spread as the roots send out more tendrils. It is not unpleasant to look at neither is creeping buttercup or convolvulus - but that doesn't make them any easier to bear does it.

Our temperatures went way down last night. Unfortunately I had already taken the electric blanket off the bed and put it away for next winter. When will I learn not to count on the weather in April! I'm glad that you finally got some rain.

I think I have managed to get rid of our Mare's tail and it has only taken three years - but with a lot of persistence from me. I crush the foliage and then rub weed killer well into it and then leave to work for a time, then repeat.

where the journey - thanks for that tip, shall put on my rubber gloves and try it once it appears again this year.
