Normal.

Back to normal, whatever that is,but my God-daughter is coming to spend the night tomorrow.   We are not going out for a meal but staying at home and having a 'Yorkshire Platter' and a bottle of decent wine - I shall put this together tomorrow morning.   So when she arrives we can just 'flop' and spend a relaxed evening.

Tess and I have had two walks today and I think she is expecting a th ird as she keeps coming to the door of my computer room and looking expectantly.   The last few days she has developed a habit of barking furiously at every dog we meet when we are out on our walks.   Previously she did it sometimes but at present it is all the time and I am having to make her sit down when I see another dog coming and then encourage her to not bark.   I suspect that if she were off the lead she would be alright but there is too much traffic about.   Does anyone have any ideas?

It is certainly not Summer weather here tonight.  I have just turned the temperature up on the central heating and the forecast is for similar weather.   On Monday The Times suggested something called a Spanish Plume was going to affect our weather and give us another long heat wave - but now after just one day they have changed their minds. So don't pack your winter clothes away just yet.

I am intrigued - what is a Yorkshire Platter?
Do you think something may have happened that has distressed Tess and caused her to start barking at other dogs? Perhaps on one of her petpals walks maybe?
I hope you find a solution.
Fingers crossed for warmer weather soon!

I'm also intrigued as to the Yorkshire platter, although I did initially read it as 'a Yorkshire platter - a bottle of decent wine!' which would go down quite nicely, in my opinion. X

Is a Yorkshire Platter the same as a Spanish Plume - but colder and wetter???

I think you may be onto something with respect to Tess barking like mad while she's on a lead. She may feel threatened by the other dogs--like she can't get away from them because she's 'tethered'.

My winter woollies are usually to hand - I never know when I might need them! Have a lovely visit with your god-daughter, and I hope you get to the bottom of Tess's barking at other dogs. Other comments suggest some useful ideas.

I would guess that a Yorkshire Platter is like a Ploughmans lunch with a bit of pork pie or ham and/or cheese and perhaps a baked potato as Weave likes a baked potato.

First I would talk to your dog walkers. On what happened or how to stop it. Possibly another dog came at her on walk ?
I am getting a hand held sonic (?) sound thing that stops your dog from barking or another dog coming towards you. Dogs hear it but not people. Have no idea if it works but on the off chance it does I am getting it. '
Watson and Hamish were trained to bark at the door 3 or 4 times and that was all. Winston can not seem to understand that rule. Plus Agatha wants to bark at everything. I hope it will help with my training of them.

cheers, parsnip

I haven't had my central heating off yet this year, although on a couple of afternoons it took a break for a couple of hours while the sun was shining in the windows. Tess is maybe just protecting her territory.

In my estimation, it is too cold and too wet for this late in the year. But, no one asked me.

My CH has now been turned off until October, the early morning can be a tad chilly atm but it becomes too warm if the CH comes on, so it's off for the summer. Yesterday afternoon (Tues) was another cloudless and warm afternoon into the evening. I actually sunbathed for an hour. Our problem here is the continuing dry weather which means I'm having to water the garden every few days.

The mystery of the Yorkshire platter: I hope it's not tripe and onions. But I think that's more Lancashire way.

Black pudding (blood sausage) slices I forgot to say.

What we wouldn’t give for a Yorkshire platter, have to make do with antipasto which is totally lacking in pie.

I just have to say it, Weave. Joanne Noragon is hoot. ;-). Love it.

possible ingredients for a Yorkshire Platter:

Yorkshire roast ham. Pork pie. Wensleydale cheese. Hard-boiled eggs. Local pate.
Locally made quiche slices - cheese and onion or salmon. sprays of cherry tomatoes.
bunch of grapes. Good artisan bread and Yorkshire butter and a bottle of decent wine.
To that yesterday I added Wensleydale-made fruit cake and a bowl of Scottish strawberries with single cream. All was delicious.
