Freezing Friday

Any suggestion that it is already Spring up here in Yorkshire is greatly misplaced.   It is a very cold day;  there was a sharp frost this morning and after a sunny start it is now grey, cloudy and with a sharp easterly wind whipping down the road at a cracking pace.  In the space of the last half hour my gardener has been and mowed the lawn and gone before I could pay him, the window cleaner has been and washed all my windows (what I would give for the 'old' way of washing windows - these days it is a brush on a long hose and it leaves drops of water all over the window, never producing as satisfactory a result).

Lunch out at The Three Horseshoes was, as usual, delicious - and as usual I had Quiche, salad, cole slaw and crispy salty chips - delicious.   Now I shall have nothing more to eat today other than a bowl of mixed blueberries and strawberries (Dutch and very good) with yoghourt.

My plants which I had ordered were on my doorstep when I got home and although I didn't feel like it I put them in immediately and watered them in.   Then in a fit of enthusiasm I took all my boxes, tins etc. up to the tip (I forgot to put them out in the week).   Now it is time to settle down and watch 'The Repair Shop'.   A busy day.   Tess has had her PetPals walk and came back just as I came back from town.   She walked today with Mitzi, a rough-haired rescue Pointer - such a delightful dog but apparently a real 'scamp.   I just hope Tess doesn't pick up any tricks.

Bloody cold down here on Sheppey as well Pat. Saw three Swallows punching their way across the reserve this morning into a bitter cold NE wind and felt quite sorry for them. A drop of rain to freshen things up wouldn't go amiss.

Might be some comfort to know we had hailstones here this afternoon, large ones bouncing around on the terrace. The wood burner is lit, I am wearing my jumper and my socks, let’s both keep cosy today.

We had the cold wind, but the sun is shining. Ne'er cast a clout till May is out!

Cold and windy here today, too, but it was sunny until mid-afternoon. There could even be a little snow over the weekend, at least that's what the forecast say.
You've accomplished such a lot today, I wish I was even just half as good as you! By the time I come from work, often all I want is shut out everything and crash out on the settee.

There's been a bitter wind here on and off this week. It can go back where it came from if it likes! A bit warmer today.

We had middle daughter here for lunch (her treat, so she went shopping for crusty bread and cheeses), which was lovely.

Your lunch sounded tasty too and well done getting your plants in straight away. I did some planting earlier in the week and am very pleased with how it's all looking.

I thought the film projector repair was incredibly poignant.

Yes Sue - I agree about the film projector. I saw his wife running into the sea as a young woman and imagined myself like that - it is much more arresting than a photograph isn't it?

Was she naked?

It's the same down here. It might look and sound like Spring but it doesn't feel like it yet.
The Repair Shop never disappoints, does it? What lovely memories to be rediscovered for the owner of the film projector.
Our lawns have been cut today and the beds and borders are gradually filling out. I am currently keeping a lovely little white cyclamen going indoors until it is warm enough to plant it somewhere outside. I bought it before Christmas and it has flowered for months, and still produces the occasional one even now.

It is cold here today. Only 65 (after several days of 94) and we might get a small rain.
I need to find a dog walker for Winston and Agatha.

cheers, parsnip.

We don't get The Repair Shop here in the US, but I just found some episodes on YouTube. I'm going to give it a try - so many people seem to enjoy it!

Bitter wind! Dog walking and gardening no fun. Where is the rain?
