Busy day....

....as life returns more or less to normal, whatever that is.

I have a permanent standing appointment for my hair at nine thirty each Thursday morning (then I don't have to bother about it all week).   Then at twelve thirty I had a forty minute appointment with my Physiotherapist - as I do every six weeks.   It keeps me mobile and without her help I wouldn't be able to keep going.   I am sure I would just seize up.   Then at four this afternoon I had an appointment with my doctor to discuss updating my Advanced Decision document - that went well and I was home again by a quarter past five.  Thank goodness I still drive my car as all three appointments would have been impossible without it.

Over the past few days we have had wet snow, hail, sunshine, thick black cloud, strong North Easterly winds and an altogether wintry feeling to the weather.   All the blackthorn is out on the hedges and we are having what we always call 'A blackthorn winter'.   It is set to gradually get a bit milder over the next few days - but not enough for me to remove my thermal vest (sorry to mention secrets of the boudoir).

Friday again tomorrow - how quickly they come round.   Out to lunch as usual so at least I don't have to think about what to eat !   Keep warm.

It's turned decidedly chilly again. The wind is howling around the house tonight. X

I wouldn't have thought you ever sat still long enough to seize up! We've had a similar cocktail of weather done here today. Warmer by the weekend with any luck.

It is bitter here.

I Busy day for you Weave. I have just wrote a post about driving as so many of my friends have given up. Maybe I could manage better without a car if I lived in a city/large town but living where the hourly bus stops at 5 o'clock and next to nothing on Sundays, can be limiting.

I am heartened that you still drive Weave.

Glad you are still driving Weave. My DMIL is driving at 89.
It was freezing today. I work for the National Trust and was absolutely bl@@@y perished today. Had thermals on and all, but to no avail. Roll on Spring. x

We've had a strong, cold wind blowing yesterday and today, and while it warms up a little in the afternoons, we're even expecting a little snow tomorrow morning! The weekend is supposed to be warmer - fingers crossed! My Mom gave up driving last year, so I'm her wheels now. It's working out very well, but she was never a really confident driver. It's great that you are still driving.

Never heard about a Blackthorn Winter. Now must look that up.
We will be getting our warm weather now only 83 today, 75 for two days and then 80 to 90's summer is coming !
Only two smallish wildfires but they are burning some bush/grasses fields getting ready for summer fires.
We had so much rain everything is growing so we will have a bad summer this year. Oh Dear.

cheers, parsnip

We are still having evening fires here, but the thermals have been put away for some while.

Unfortunately, after a brief milder spell this weekend, it is set to be cold again next week, things don't look good for fast approaching Easter.

It has a very wintry feel down here too, though we have had no snow. You seem to have life very well organised and what a good thing you can drive yourself to appointments, etc. I am ashamed to say I lost my nerve some years ago, but at least I now live within walking distance of almost everything I need to get to.
Enjoy your lunch and keep the thermals handy!

It is good that you are able to drive and get out and about so much. My father-in-law's partner, who now lives alone following his death, is 93 and still drives. Although we are beginning to doubt the safety aspect of this as her eyesight has become very poor and her reactions are not what they were. Are your aches and pains better in the warmer, drier summer months? We have rain and cold winds this morning but it is forecast to clear up a little by this afternoon.

I've just taken Rick for his afternoon walk and it definitely feels warmer today.

Thanks everyone for your comments. The day started well with sunshine but now it has clouded over and it is decidedly chilly. I bought some lupin plants at the garden man on the market and have just wrapped up well, put them in and watered them. Now it is very cold and I shall turn the central heating up. No e mail at present as I just can't get on to it. The site comes up but as soon as I try to sign in it disappears - very frustrating.

After that lovely warm springlike week again, we plunged back into winter here, with hail, sleet and even snow (though it didn't lay at this level, and was very wet underfoot anyway).

Glad that you are firing on all cylinders again. I was hoping to get my hair trimmed before the Fair this weekend, but no chance.
