Up with the lark.

It was up with the lark this morning because I had to be in Northallerton before nine o'clock to take my car in for its annual service.   H next door very kindly took Tess for her morning walk - I was very grateful and what is more H took her about four times as far as I am able to walk.

My car was brought back to the door of the showrooms - it has been cleaned and polished and looked very smart and what it more the engine seemed so much more perky on the return journey.
It is a good job done and another job to cross off my list.

Shortly after returning, the lady who cleans came to clean through the bungalow for me.   She is such a practical person - she puts me to shame.   I have now had my cordless vacuum cleaner for about six weeks and she decided that today was the day to wash the filters once she had vacuumed through.  They are now drying on the draining board and I had a demonstration on how to replace them in the machine before she went home.   Having worked for me for at least twenty five years she has got my measure perfectly.   What I would give to have a practical brain.

My grandson is home on a fortnight's holiday over Chinese New Year (he teaches in China) so I am really looking forward to seeing him.   He is spending four days with his father and should have arrived this afternoon.   It is two years since I saw him - two very eventful years for him I suspect.

No more post today - I have a very sore shoulder and typing is irritating it somewhat.   See you tomorrow.

A busy day and some nice ones to look forward to with your grandson. Hope the shoulder improves.

Is that the same as 'up with sparrow-fart' Weave?

I am not sure she did the right thing in leaving you to put the cleaner back together again then.

I washed the filters for our handheld Dyson yesterday and sat them on the sunny window ledge to dry. I like the hand held vacuum but it does clog very easily and I also need to get into the habit of charging it more often. Enjoy your time with your grandson-I’m sure he will be pleased to see you too.

Do hope your shoulder will soon be less painful, and that you get to spend some time with your grandson. He will have so much to talk about.
Isn't it irritating that modern vacuum cleaners have bits that need to be wrestled apart and cleaned? I only learned about filters a couple of years ago!

Oh, to have someone to clean the inside of my car!

Yes Tom - it is just a more refined version I guess.
My grandsons both came round to see me this evening - goodness me how the one who is home from China has changed in the two years he has been away. He towers over me now and makes me feel like a shrunken old lady!
Rachel - you are most likely right about assembling the cleaner - time will tell.

I do not have a very practical mind. If there is an easy way to do something, I seem to find the hardest way to do it. The debris receptacle and filter on the small vacuum we use often have to be emptied/cleaned several times during one session. It gets a little tiresome but we don't have to by disposable bags, eiher.

With no dog or cat in the house, my vacuum cleaner hardly needs emptying any more. I always used to empty it after each session, and the amount of hair etc in it was unbelievable.

You have never struck me as a person with a NOT practical mind, Pat! All the things you accomplish in one day, and so much of your household jobs that you do yourself, wouldn't be possible without a practical mind, I guess.
My cordless vacuum cleaner is very easy to dissemble and assemble, even I can do it.
Do you know what caused your sore shoulder? I hope you are soon painfree again.
How lovely to see both your grandsons together.

Cro you never spoke a truer word. My cleaner needs emptying every Monday when my cleaner has been and it is always full of dog hairs.

Librarian - if I have given the impression that I have a pratical mind then it is wrong - I go to pieces if anything practical needs doing. My cleaner is a real wiz kid with anything practical and puts me to shame.

Thanks everyone.
