Monday

It is one of those Spring days when the sun is out, there is no-one about and the quiet everywhere is so quiet that you can hear it.   Do you know what I mean?   Maybe it is the product of being profoundly deaf - I don't know.   But whatever the reason, sitting on the wall in my backgarden the warmth of the sun is bliss.   No doubt about it, today is the warmest day of the year so far here in North Yorkshire.

My cleaner, who comes on a Monday, is not able to come today.   Of course I hit the cleaning at full pelt (as I always do ) and after tidying everywhere, changing the bed, washing the bedding, drying it, ironing it and putting it in the airing cupboard, making the bed up with clean bedding, walking the dog twice so far, cleaning the kitchen units and floor and cooking myself a sausage, bean, mushroom and tomato lunch I am now, at twenty minutes to four in the afternoon, absolutely shattered and barely able to walk because my ankle is hurting so much.  I have just watered my outside pots and now I shall do no more today.

March at the end of the week.   March can be a cruel month and I am afraid that February has lulled us into a sense that Spring is here.   On my walk at lunch time there were primroses, iris reticulata, all kinds of daffodils from tiny tete a tete to large ones, crocuses, helleborus, wallflowers, rosemary in bloom in gardens and on the grass verges plenty of lesser celandines and daisies.    Does the old heart good.   There was even a patch of coltsfoot - I love this weed and it really loves the sun - every flower was facing the sun full on with joy at our lovely weather.   Enjoy it while it is here everyone.

Hope you are now resting with your feet up.
I've just been searching out the weather sayings for my March 1st post - there are so many to choose from many warning of what we might get.

Gosh, what joy.

I couldn't do all that cleaning in a single day - I like to spread it out and just do a couple of chores a day. No wonder you're tired. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this weather continued into summer.

Why iron bedding? I iron pillow cases and stick a cover over the duvet. I hope you have a nice seat in the garden ,get out there and soak up the sun and vitamin D !

I love coltsfoot too and celandine. It's such a sparkle of colour and joy. It doesn't mind shady corners so brightens up a spot that could be dark and dank otherwise.
I laughed at your description of Tess's antics with her bonios yeasterday. How about giving her 3 to see if she returns twice or just once. Perhaps she really can count up to 5.

How wonderful to have flowers blooming! It will be a while before we even see anything green here as winter is still going strong. You certainly have had a busy day and deserve a rest with your feet up!

Coltsfoot is usually a february plant here, haven't seen any yet however. Lovely few days, the local crocuses are stunning

Hahahahaha! As to March coming in, I fear the same here. The sun has been out the past few days. Such a teaser. Not certain what is ahead.

It has been glorious for the past few days but I am sure winter has not quite done with us yet. I am not a pessimist but a realist, and like to be prepared. We must just make the most of the lovely days whenever they arrive.
Very envious of your energy in getting so much done in the house. At the moment I am nursing a painfully sore heel and trying not to limp. Looking forward to becoming a bit sprightlier before long.

It is cold here although sunny and a very sharp frost this morning. Your post was exhausting because I was drawn in to reading it fast in the way you cleaned and washed and ironed.

Sounds like you really overdid the cleaning! Hope the sunshine renews you. I looked up an airing cupboard on the internet, and it said a heated cupboard to place items that are partially dried so they can finish drying. Is the cupboard itself heated or is it placed near a heat source?

Pat! You are an Idiot! I’m amazed! That was the kind of load my DIL could manage , I certainly couldn’t, no wonder you’re exhausted! I do hope you don’t suffer a sleepless night and aches and pains tomorrow. I know I do if I overdo it. I hope the weather continues pleasant and you’re not being lulled into relaxing before another nasty cold front descends.

Phew - even just reading about your day makes me tired!
I don't trust the mild February weather yet; my padded winter coats are staying at hand where they are, I will only wash them and fold them away when I am sure I won't need them again for several months.

Sue - airing cupboard is the cupboard which houses the hot water tank, usually in the bathroom. It has shelvesin it so we can keep towels and sheets etc and air them there.

Ironing - sorry folks but I just have to do it.

thanks everyone
