Problems

It is half past nine in the morning, the sky is a clear blue, the sun is shining, my car is thick with ice and I would guess it is very cold indeed outside the door (I haven't opened it yet since I got up at seven).

John (Going Gently) speaks of getting out of the house so that he gets away  from his worries.   I begin to know the feeling as one thing after another does rather get me down.    At present it is the electrics in the bungalow.   My electrician is going through everything so that he can give me a certificate at the end of the work to say that the whole place is in good order.   That is proving a long and hard job. As  I mentioned yesterday,  the lights in the bathroom - four of them set in the ceiling - are proving difficult because of the wiring.   Luckily the ceiling is not Artexed in there and my painter and decorator called in at short notice (he is a great find thanks to a friend - he is her neighbour) and the upshot is that the four downlights are to be removed and then he is coming in the fill in the holes and just one ordinary bathroom light will be fitted - a great relief.

The next problem has presented itself in that the electrician found that there were some woodworm holes in one of the beams in the roof space.   It is never ending = I just stop worrying about one job and another worry takes its place.     John's answer is to get out of the house and to this end I am meeting a friend for lunch today.   Perhaps for an hour I can forget it all.

We had some light snow overnight and then a freeze up, there's a lot of black ice on the roads although the sun is now melting that.
I hope that the electrician is someone that you can trust, he seems to be finding a lot of work and presumably he hasn't got a mate that treats woodworm.

One bright spot Pat .. thank goodness you have the funds to take care of it all... When we were remodeling .. a complete rewire of the house would have cost us $20,000 USD !! I hope things look up soon!! I've always heard bad news or bad things comes in threes... I don't know what number your on now.. Chin up! Hugs! deb

I'm sure your trusty and trusted workmen will do a good job for you, and when it is all done you can relax in the knowledge that everything is in working order. I can understand your worries though, and hope a little trip away from it all will give a little respite.
It was very cold when I went out early this morning, but very bright and there was a lovely view across the River Severn to Wales.

Frigid cold here in the US and Arctic air on its way today. Must be sure that my horses are well blanketed and horses, sheep and chickens are well bedded. It snowed very wet snow yesterday and last night and then froze.. so roads, cars , and walks are solid ice....too cold for the ice melt to work...
I don't go out unless I have to.....stopped for milk, etc yesterday.. we were truly out!

Yes Derek I can definitely trust my electrician - and I really need to have that certificate to say all is right with the electrics in the bungalow.

Pat, you're not wired up right. It's been obvious to me for years (BIG wink)

We had snow last night and the car is under ice. I was quite happy pottering around the house all morning, but now that it's one o'clock I am beyond restless. It's 20° out; still, I may have to go for a walk. I hope your lunch outing helped.

Friends for breakfast, friends for lunch keep my sanity. And I talk to them; I don't devour them. I do hope your maintenance comes to an end, soon.

We finally had my Mom's house rewired this past summer. She still had fuses, and we had it upgraded to circuit breakers and the electrician checked everything through and made sure all was safe. A very good feeling. He said though that most important is a good smoke alarm system. I know I always feel better if I get out of the house each day, even if it's just for an hour. Good luck on getting everything finished up soon - I'm sure Tess will be relieved!

I only own the one flat in this house of four flats (actually three - the basement was never meant to be inhabited, but my greedy neighbour converted it so that he could put refugees in and charge them a fortune, paid for by the authorities), and I absolutely hate it when anything goes wrong. Three years ago in spring, we had problems with heating and hot water; in the end, our boiler had to be replaced. It was worrying, expensive and not very nice having no heating during the chilly nights of early spring.
You already know your workmen and can trust them - that is a huge plus!
