Friday

I have stuck to my resolution and for a whole week I have not listened to the News.    As Rachel suggested a few days ago, I have of course continued to read The Times - I could not bear not to have a paper to read - but any item on Brexit I bypass.   I have decided that as I can't do a lot about any of it and as they are like a lot of children falling out in the playground, I shall just ignore the lot of them.

Today is a relatively mild day - all set to start getting cold again tomorrow - so I have made the most of it and had several walks with Tess.   She has done really well as it is a PetPals day too and she had her walk with them just after lunchtime.   By the time I returned from my usual Friday lunch out she was back home.

The frosts of the last night or two had prostrated the pansies, violas and polyanthus but today they have all perked up and are looking so pretty in the tubs outside my front door.   If there is a hard spell which kills them off before the end of Winter they have still earned their value over the last few months because they have given me such a lot of pleasure.

Beef and Stilton pie for lunch with roasted parsnips and carrots garnished with pea shoots  - and a glass of red wine and then a cup of coffee.   Three of us today and a very pleasant hour.   Set to turn colder so shall keep warm tomorrow.   I have to stay in as the man is coming to look at my stop tap which has a tiny leak - it isn't dripping but is always wet so there is a weakness somewhere (the electrician found it).

I shall now go and watch The Victorian House, a programme on BBC2 every Friday night which I am thoroughly enjoying.   Whatever you are doing this week end - enjoy doing it.

Also went for lunch today. I had a slice of chicken in some kind of sauce and some band noodles. And a glass of beer. I've done 8 crosswords today. I think I'm getting to be a crossword junkie. The wind was biting today. Hope for better tomorrow. I'm champing at the bit for a good walk.

I wish I could switch off from B****T but find it difficult. Stresses me out. Nice to read you had a pleasant day.

I hope the electrician and plumber will do their stuff and you can have the house to yourself again. Nice to get these problems put right though.
I am enjoying The Victorian House too, and love William Morris and William de Morgan designs in particular.
It was almost springlike here this morning but I'm sure we are due for a rude awakening soon. Hope your pansies will survive - they are so pretty and cheering.

I am also watching the Victorian House. Love it although I could do without the required angst that the BBC seem to require!

I enjoyed watching Ben Fogle visiting the 80 year old Judith Hoad living on her own in the wilderness in Ireland. Wife of the late Jeremiah Hoad, artist. It was on Channel 5 if you missed it and is available on catch up tv. I think you would enjoy it. Ben Fogle was almost out of his depth. Glad you had a good day today Weave. So did I. It was mild here too.

The Queen is the only one worth listening to at the moment.

I'm off to my nearby village in a few hours, to our local 'Fat Fair'. The 'Fat' refers to fattened Ducks and Geese that are raised for 'Foie Gras'. It's a dying event, as few local farmers can now be bothered. I shall take some photos.

The Victorian House sounds interesting, somehow I seem to have missed it.

Your lunch sounds very nice!
We're in for a few days of temperatures above freezing this weekend, but the cold is forecast to come back early next week. The snow is still sticking around as I'm writing this, though.
The Victorian House sounds interesting.

I love the craft parts of The Victorian House, but I'm not so keen on the egos. You'd think that the participants would have put a bit more thought into the fact that they would be having to live and work with other people.

RachelI did watch the Ben Fogle programme -I have watched them all and enjoyed them too. the one you mention was particularly good because she was alone and content with her own company.
Agree also with the comments about The Victorian House although I think it did say at one point that all six of them were used to working alone and part of the exercise was to encourage them to work together. Some are obviously finding it easier than others. I thought it was interesting this week that the potter was so delighted to be given a project that he really relished and was his specialised subject and then he had such difficulty with it. Also I really don't know why they have to choose a 'winner' each week - the programme stands on its own without that quite well.

Thanks everyone.

I am working on putting new warp on my loom. I simply do not enjoy this bit, and wish there were studio fairies about.
