New Bathroom.

Out of the blue the plumber rang this morning and said could he come and replace the loo and washbasin this afternoon.   Of course I said yes - it is so good to find a plumber who says he will come and then comes on time.   Three hours later and it was all done, cleaned up and back to normal.   It looks very different but at least the cold tap on the washbasin is no longer so stiff I can hardly turn it on and the loo flushes first time you depress the button.   A good job done in record time.

Tess and I tootled down to the carpet shop, chose a vinyl flooring and they are going to come and measure  it up tomorrow (but not fit it until Christmas week).  It was appalling weather when we ventured out - pouring rain, strong wind and very cold.   Now, at last, the doors are shut, the plumber is gone and we can begin to get warm again.

It is our Poetry afternoon tomorrow so I shall now go and choose what I am intending to read and have a few practise runs - I hate to stumble over a word when I am reading a poem; it destroys the whole spirit of the thing.   Judging by the weather forecast we shall need poetry to cheer us up tomorrow (and warm winter woollies too).

I think we shared the same weather today Pat. It was horrid out and I was so glad to get back indoors again.

I am glad you have such a reliable plumber. Our builder (who is also a very good friend as he has worked on this house for many years now) finally shoe-horned us into his busy schedule today and has done the first part of a repair to a damp wall. He's back on Friday, when hopefully it will be dry and he can get up on the roof . . .

You are a great role model for us who are following you agewise with all you do: your poetry club, lunch club, ukele band, gardening, dog walking in all weathers, blogging, reading the Times, watching your favourite TV shows, nipping here and there in your little car and I don't know what else . . .

Long may it continue!!!

We are having a bad patch of weather here too. Rain, wind, and more of both, with no end in sight. It is warmer though, but that doesn’t make the grey days much better. Yesterday I had the three year old grandson all day so we headed to an indoor play place to burn off some energy. Today I’ve got the ten month sister and not being able to go to a park is hard on both of us!

I’m impressed with your tradespeople. By most over here are saying they’re too busy to take on work before Christmas! Efficient taps make a huge difference, don’t they. I had the cistern and handbasin replaced in our second bathroom and the new look is such an improvement, and the basin so much easy to keep clean. Enjoy yours!

Sounds cosy Weave. Would you be insulted if I said that I imagine a poetry reading from you to sound a bit like Pam Ayres? I hope not, She is a heroine of mine.

I plan to have my bathroom (actually, a shower room since I do not have a bath tub) redone next year - but I doubt it will be such a good, quick job! You really have all the good craftsmen in your area, reliable, clean, helpful folk.
It was just grey and cloudy here, and cold enough to snow, but nothing fell from those thick grey clouds.

It is good to get out and about.

Tom - there is always somebody who reads Pam Ayres. I am reading Simon Armitage's
'Hercules' today as my funny one. I am also reading part of my favourite poem -
Basil Bunting's Briggflats. I go regularly to Sedbergh and drive over the River
Rawthey just before I get there. I am always reminded of the poem. Briggflats is
a Quaker meeting House on the edge of Sedbergh - it is very beautiful and always open for visitors. If you ever pay it a visit there is always hospitality here!

I think the entire country has pretty dismal weather at present. It has been very wet and grey down here but then it is November. Your plumber sounds like mine - arrives when he says he will and does an excellent job. Sadly they seem to be an endangered species.
Enjoy your poetry afternoon tomorrow and keep snug and dry today.
