A wet day

An understatement.   It is 3-40 and almost dark.   This will have to be a short post so that I can get in Tess's walk before darkness descends.   It has poured with rain on and off all day.   A strong east wind is blowing and I cannot think of a single nice adjective to put in front of today however hard I try.

This morning I bought myself a new cordless vacuum cleaner which I needed because my cleaner had broken down.   Then I bought myself a new toaster and matching kettle - not because either had broken down but because they were old and I thought red ones would be cheery in my kitchen.   They are.

This necessitated another trip to the Council Tip - my second trip this week.   Once with all the flower boxes from my birthday and today with three electrical appliances.   Shedding detritus is so liberating.   But that is not the only reason I enjoy going to the tip.   The men who work there are a joy, whatever the weather.   The rain was pouring down.   They were all in their hut keeping dry and warm.   But the moment I stopped, out they came, smiling and helpful and emptied my boot for me, making me sit back in my car in the dry.   A rotten job on a day like this but they always cheer me up and for this I thank them most sincerely.

Rain and sleet here and cold and dark early. I also have a red kettle. It brightens the kitchen.

You treated yourself to a red toaster and kettle, I like that. Red is such a happy warm color, especially on a cold wet day. How nice those men are so cheerful and helpful.

That was to say "even with the the dark, rain and wind"

Don't like that kind of weather Pat and I can't think of anything to say nice about it either. Nevermind. They would like it in California. Donna@gather

Horrible day here too.
You are lucky with your men at the tip, they always seem grumpy when I've been

I shall be interested to know how you get on with your new vacuum cleaner.

The rain has just arrived here - I can hear it lashing against the windows. I don't need to use the council tip very often, but when I do the staff are always helpful and cheery.

Exactly the same conditions here on Sheppey today, I just managed to get an hour on the reserve, rain free, with the dog, in a gale force icy wind, before the rain started at 8.00 and still hasn't stopped.

I bet the red appliances do brighten up your kitchen! Stay warm with all this cold, damp weather.

Yes it was one of those days where you couldn't tell if the sun had risen

We had quite a nice day here but who knows what tomorrow may bring? There must be something about the staff at recycling centres and tips - ours are lovely too. Always cheerful and always helpful.
I treated myself to a few new accessories to my kitchen when I moved so I know how much pleasure your new kettle and toaster will bring you.
Here's hoping tomorrow will be a brighter day in the north.

Please send some of that rain over to us! We're truly getting desperate with groundwater levels at an all-time low, and although there is rain forecast for Saturday, a) it is not here yet and b) it won't be nowhere near enough if lasts only a few hours.
Nice to hear the men at the tip are so helpful and friendly!
By the way, my toaster and coffee machine are also red.

It is miserable weather but look on the bright side it will fill the reservoirs for next summer. Our waste recycling depot is way out in the country on the way to Wombleton, same helpful, cheerful men. Load of signs but you can't take 'garden waste' it has to go to Scarborough.

Today has seen a big change from yesterday - after an icy start, it has been clear blue skies and sunshine but cold. Tonight looks like it could be frosty

Such gloomy weather. The chaps at the tip where I live are just the same - cheerful, helpful and courteous.
