Weather

It seems as though this hot weather is coming to an end at last.   Looking at the weather map on the television news a great yellow mass is creeping gradually Eastwards - today enveloping parts of West Ireland and then relentlessly moving on.    Here there is hazy sun and a cool breeze - pleasant weather indeed.

The British are always said to be preoccupied with the weather but I suspect that this year every country has been preoccupied, particularly those whose livelihood depends on it.   Farmers everywhere are concerned about poor yields of crops and poor Winter feed for their animals.   And Derek (Letters from Sheppey) speaks about the worries at the wild life reserve where the water table has never really recovered from last year.   But I expect we shall only have a couple of weeks of our usual weather before we are complaining again and wishing our Summer weather back.

Nothing much to say today - ukulele practise this afternoon and now I am very tired, so see you tomorrow.

It's all a bit strange Pat, or at least it is if you're inside my mind. Basically I've been enjoying this heatwave, although the late afternoon sticky-ness gets a bit hard to endure as does watching so many garden flowers and wildlife struggle. But the freedom to wear so few clothes (I've lived in shorts for a couple of months) and to not be shut indoors and to see the local beach full of people enjoying themselves, has been really liberating. Suddenly the thought of going back to cooler, changeable weather, surprisingly doesn't cheer me up that much. But I guess all good things come to an end.

Sleep well Pat. I shall welcome the cooler weather and hope to resume my daily walks. Not that I walk far, but even half an hour a day is better than nothing. My feet and legs hate hot and humid conditions and become very uncomfortable.

I too will welcome the cooler weather. As I am sure the wildlife and farmed animals will.

Tomorrow expecting 37 C / 98.6 F, but at least it's cooler than Portugal where they just had 47 C / 116 F. Been getting up early doors, to make the most of the hours before the heat builds. Then it's draw the curtains and sit in a dark room.

Gwil - that sounds a bit drastic but guess it is quite a lot hotter with you than it is here - ten degrees hotter by your report! Thank goodness for the North of England I say (in Summer anyway).

I hope you've had a good day and a peaceful evening. We've been just a bit cooler here though the afternoons still go into the 90'sF which is hot for me. It is hard to believe school will be starting up here in just a week. Time goes by so fast. We will soon be looking at Fall.

Take care Pat.

32C here at 4pm, that's about 90F. Fine by me. I lit the BBQ. Had my tea outside. Sit and do nothing and enjoy. Get your gym shorts out and your Aertex shirt on and put your feet up. Adjustments have to be made.

When you live somewhere that is very dependent on the weather you learn to watch. We only have rain twice a year and with all the wildfires we watch the weather.

cheers, parsnip

99 degrees here near St. Louis, Missouri today. It's been a hot summer, a bit hotter than usual it seems like to me, but we are to have bit of a cool down for the next few days and some rain. I'm hoping the cool front colliding with this heat doesn't cause violent storms or tornadoes.

We are promised thunder-storms for Thursday, then the temperature should drop to the mid 20's C for a while. I don't totally dislike the heat, but my favourite temperature is 25 C.

6.15 am. And the day always starts cool under the cloud, it is that wretched sun that is so hot;) But I shall be glad when it is cooler and rains, hopefully on Thursday. Another great tanker has pulled up over the road where I think our sewage system is underground, so there are problems being experienced. Yorkshire Water was at the other end of the village yesterday as well delving deep into a pothole.

We had 37/38C last weekend, and hardly cooler for the start of this week. At night, temperatures have not dropped below 22 or 23C, which makes keeping the flat cool a challenge. ("Cool" being relative - when it is 37 outside, 27 in my bedroom is still cool in comparision!)
The weather forecast here is similar to what Cro says; thunderstorms by Thursday or Friday and a significant drop in temperature for a few days, before it will be in the 30s again next week.
As for the British and the weather - they are not alone in that, and not only this year. As long as I can remember, people here have been talking about the weather :-)

Think I'll pass on the wearing an aertex shirt and sitting in a dark room, thanks, I do enough sitting in dark rooms in the winter. My favourite solution many afternoons is to cycle along the nearby seafront and enjoy the cooling sea breezes.
