Monday

Another day of blue sky and unbroken sunshine here in the Dales, except that as we are on the Eastern  side of the Pennines there is quite a sharp wind blowing off the North Sea and the temperature is not quite as hot as on the other side of the country.  This can only be good.

Wimbledon begins today and traditionally it is a time of sunshine and showers interrupting play.   But according to the long-range forecast the fortnight of Wimbledon will remain good weather throughout.   However my Times today suggests thunderstorms may be creeping Northwards by Thursday of this week - rain would be so good for my garden.

The coming week-end is my son's village Open Gardens and Scarecrow competition.   They enter both and as my son's wife is handicapped she does have difficulty in getting about and doing jobs in the garden.   But I am sure it will look splended, as it always does.

This afternoon has been a one hour ukulele practice - very enjoyable - but quite long enough for me.   Tess was pleased to see me home.   I feel sure she is mortally offended each time I leave her alone.   She loves to be outdoors and yet, although the patio doors are wide open she will only stay out in the garden if I am there.

Cougettes in my garden gro-bags are really flourishing in this hot, sunny weather.   One patty pan on one plant, three round courgettes on another and another one full of flowers but no courgettes yet.  Watch this space.

Same weather here Pat but the strong E. wind combined with very hot sunshine is having a flame gun effect across the countryside, drying every last drop of moisture out of the soil and burning much plant life to a crisp. How they play at Wimbledon in this heat is beyond me.

It's lovely and hot on this side of the country, although the gardens really could do with a good shower of rain. I have one courgette plant but it's struggling to grow in the shade of Lily's Sunflowers. X

I so love the open garden days and wish they'd be established in this Country, too!

I am envious of your cooling breeze. We have a breeze but there is nothing cooling about it. I loved growing a few vegs - so nice to be able to pick a few broad beans, runner beans, or tomatoes. The courgettes would wander all over the patio if I let them. I am happy to buy the few I need from the farmers' market.
Good luck to your son and daughter-in-law with their open garden event. I hope the weather doesn't change and spoil it for everyone.
The only bits of green on lawns around here are the weeds!

We've been under heat advisories here but today it has cooled off and looks like it may rain, which would be a good thing. I'd love to see a picture of the garden / scarecrows. -Jenn

As you say Pat, Wimbledon starts today and the next few weeks are a nightmare on TV for anybody that doesn't like watching sport - Wimbledon, World Cup Football and then that cycle race thing.

I want to visit when your village has this show. It always sounds like so much fun.
As for the heat it is summer in Tucson any where from 102 to 110 is normal for us.

cheers, parsnip

We are plenty hot here, too. Indoors and air conditioning for us, though I would be happy to go out and watch a vegetable garden grow.

We eat Courgettes every other day; sliced at an angle, fried in olive oil and garlic butter, and very lightly sprinkled with cumin. The in-between days we eat Beans.

Those round courgettes are funny, I asked somewhere at what size do you eat them, apparently 'orange' size. Mind you I eat them smaller...

That cooling sea breeze has been welcome here. With my living room and bedroom facing South it has been cooler outside than in during late afternoon.
