Garden Post again.

Today a local Handyman is constructing me a handrail - well two actually - to get to the top of my garden.   I just do not feel safe climbing steps without one.

A dozen or so plants sit waiting for my gardener to come and put them in - and I expect that once they are in the garden will swallow them up and I still will have lots of space.   I shall of course resort to John's advice to put pansies here and there to fill up.   (I have already got a dozen or so in - and very colourful they are too).

If you have time do look again at an update on the farmer's niece's post (Kitchy  and Co) on my sidebar.'A' really is such a talented photographer and constructs such wonderful images with her clever photography.

This weekend sees the Tour de Yorkshire come through our little town tomorrow and for this event everything stops.   Already the town centre is completely closed as flags, bunting, balloons, stalls, a stage, a big screen - everything - is put up ready for the arrival of the cyclists at around mid-day.   As my son (who is a fanatical cyclist) says - there will be a long procession of cars carrying spare parts for the bikes - they will come first.   Then the competitors will flash by at such speed that they will be gone in a second.  Soon cars of spectators will follow and the town will become itself again.

I suspect that the grocers/supermarkets might just as well stay closed because the road will be closed for much of the morning so nobody can get in to park and shop.   The cafes should do well though as spectators rustle up hunger waiting for the bikes to arrive.   The cyclists actually come past the end of my road but as I really can't stand for a long period of time, I think I shall give it a miss and watch it on television instead (I have been told it is on Channel 24).   Still, it is a super event so good luck to all the cyclists.

Cloudless, sunny and warm here today on Sheppey and due to get even warmer by Mon/Tues, how long before someone complains about it being too hot, I wonder.

I love visualizing your garden in my imagination as it comes to life. I feel like a peeping Tom watching an artist paint a masterpiece, as yet unknown. I have no garden this year for the first time in my life...just the annuals, a few Moonflowers & some Avocado trees I've sprouted for containers. It feels right, though, in my pain, grief & loss, for me to not have my tomatoes, squash, peppers & herbs. My husband (who for some mysterious reason I'll never know or understand, after 40 years of marriage decided to become a Meth addict & almost killed me) did all the back-work & I'm not able, plus he took half our income, etc. so I'll probably be selling my beloved home of 30 years soon... So life goes on. I look forward to watching your garden as it blossoms and blooms and I hope by next Spring to have a better, happier life that includes a big garden, too.

What a wise decision to put handrails up. That should increase your enjoyment of your lovely garden. The bike race sounds exciting but I think I would avoid the town area as it could be a driving nightmare. It is good you can watch it on TV. I did look at your niece's post. Thank you for mentioning it - she does have some wonderful photographs!

It's good to have posts about gardens, after the awful weather I was beginning to wonder if I would ever get out in the garden again!

Bonnie. The roads into our town will be closed for the duration of the race, only opening again once the cyclists have gone through.
Derek. I hope it lasts a while as that warm weather has only just begun to infiltrate North of The Wash - seventeen here today but a cool wind blowing too.

You are doing some sensible things for garden management. I started with a neglected garden four years ago-oh the work! Last year was a right off as I was hit by a health bomb, Toppling over in to the garden bed was a real possibility so I empathize. We have a large bike race come to our isolated peninsula in early summer. It is rather fun. They have to get on the ferry, we are only accessible by water, and then pour out on to dry land like a swarm of bees.

There was warmth coming through my windows this morning! I might not need a coat when I go out today. Progress at last.
How exciting it must be to have such a large cycling event passing through your town, even if making life a little awkward for a while.
That is a brilliant idea to have handrails for your garden steps. You will be able to move about with safety now and enjoy every little bit of it.
I am going to try to find your niece's blog now.

I shall have to try and remember to watch the cycling on the television and see if I can recognise any of the places they ride through.

Your handrails sound an excellent idea! The Tour de Yorkshire is also going through Kikby Malzeard which is where we lived for about 10 years in late 80's and 90's so we will be watching avidly on Sunday!

A very warm and sunny day here in Surrey at my partner's house for the weekend. Much gardening then gin cocktails on the patio with a BBQ. Amazed that it only took one day for someone to say it was too hot!
Masonry bees sound favourite if they are tunneling into your wall but like Rachel says, Bumblebees will also nest in all manner of places, including walls if there is room. I had them nest under the concrete floor of my garage one year, where there was a gap between the floor and the base of the wall.
