Busy day tatting about

Lovely day here again today.   I took myself down to the Garden Centre early this morning to buy some compost.   I also bought two box trees for either side of my front door.   They look very smart.

I returned home, put on a load of washing and then made my morning coffee and watched a bit of the build-up to the wedding.   I found it a bit boring after ten minutes or so, so I went out into the garden and lifted the bulbs in a plot where I intend to put purple geraniums.  Someone asked why lift the bulbs when they will come again next year.   The reason for lifting them is to put them in a tub of compost and let the foliage die down naturally so that the goodness goes back into the bulb.

I watched the actual ceremony (I thought the dress was beautiful and I also liked the simplicity of the flowers and the lovely children who were bridesmaids and page boys).   I was touched by the bride's mother, who had a job throughout the service to keep her tears at bay (so did I).

After that I did a bit more gardening and also separated three houseplants into individual pots (they were part of an arrangement bought for my birthday back in October).   Now I have to find somewhere indoors to put them!

Tess has just had her evening walk, a friend called in for half an hour with her grandchildren, I shall finish reading my side bar and then maybe have an early night.  Sleep well everyone.

Sounds like a lovely day. I like to garden but it is very hard for me now.
I saw a few reruns of the Wedding. I thought her dress was lovely.
Her Mum touched my heart with the look in her eyes and a quivering lip. Trying to hold back the tears.

cheers, parsnip

That sounds like a perfect day. Perfect for a wedding too. Wasn't it delightful and how well behaved all those little bridesmaids and pageboys were. I thought Meghan's mother was so dignified and serene despite the strong possibility that she must have felt somewhat overawed by the surroundings and the occasion.
I went shopping first then watched the ceremony and ride through Windsor. It seemed so strange to see the Household Cavalry riding through quite narrow side streets, but what a treat for all the residents.
Hopefully more good gardening days to come.

Lovely say here, too - warm enough for us to spend all afternoon at the allotment of O.K.'s parents; first having coffee and strawberry cake, followed by a glass of sparkling wine, and later a proper BBQ with various salads and other side dishes. So far, I have not seen one single picture of the wedding, but that will no doubt change very soon.

Megan's mum must be completely gobsmacked by the whole situation. Becoming a member of the Royal Family in about one week, followed by all that stuff - on her own - must have been almost as much as a normal mortal could cope with. She did very well indeed.

If that is tatting about, it's what I did this morning. The Wedding was moving, and I just kept coming back to it.

The wedding and planting was my day also and it was a lovely way to spend my time.

The garden is certainly coming along, it must be time to let us have a peek at how things are progressing. Hint! Hint! A photo or two, please.

I've only seen photos of the Royal Wedding. I agree about the beauty and simplicity of the brides's dress. I also think her mother looked stunning, which for my money, has everything to do with understatement and style.

What will everyone chatter about next?

I watched the wedding but being a traditionalist found the service a bit odd. Old fashioned I may be but, although the dress was beautiful, I didn't think pure white was suitable for a second wedding. And a note for the above commenter who thought The Duchess of Sussex was wearing the late Princess of Wales' tiara - she wasn't - that tiara was made for Queen Mary in 1932 and has not been worn in public since 1951.

Tatting about. That's a new one on me.

Well done Pat for continuing to keep yourself busy and always looking forward, it would be easy for you to write blogs about how tough life is for you. You continue to inspire us. The garden is surely doing you the world of good.
In answer to Alphie Soup, I guess the next milestone will be in 10-12 months time, guessing what sex the new Royal baby will be.

Rachel and Gwil - I have used 'tatting' since infancy so I think it is (as Rachel suggests) a slang word - and obviously of Lincolnshire origin.
As for having the energy to garden - I haven't but I push myself for an hour each morning before the sun gets too high. I pay my gardener for two hours each week (and more if we think it necessary).

I loved her dress!

I have caught up on the wedding snippets today and thought it was all lovely. The simplicity of her dress was so classic and she obviously felt like a million dollars. Good to see a couple SO in love. (Mind you I don't think the Queen was terribly enamoured of the change from tradition, she was looking a bit po-faced at times!)

Good to hear that you are managing bits of gardening and that you will get such pleasure from your new plantings.
