What a day

I have had a very busy day.   I always have my hair done early on Thursday morning and then I went into town to buy garden supplies - weed killer for dandelions on the patio, fertiliser for a very sad lawn, a planter for  under the sitting room window.   Then it was an early lunch and half an hour with my feet up before setting off with the little gang to play and sing for the local Alzheimer's Society and their carers.   It was a lovely afternoon - all the doors and windows open and a lovely atmosphere as they chose and we all sang the old favourites - they knew every word.

It is such a privilege to do this becase every single one of us gets such a lot of pleasure from it.

Then it was home, tea and an hour in the garden planting up the plants I bought this morning (yes, I know I didn't intend to buy plants - but can any gardener, hand on heart, honestly say they can resist the odd plant here and there?

I forgot to mention that this morning I also had to have a new tyre on my car.   My car is only just a year old but at the garage they thought I must have caught the tyre edge in a pothole and chipped a chunk out of the rubber.   The tyre set me back £109 which was a blow.   Served to remind me that cars are not cheap to run.   Insurance for the year is due tomorrow!

A blackbird has built a nest in my garden hedge and they now appear to have babies as both Mr and Mrs are frantically searching the lawn and gardens for food.

I used to play and sing with my mother while I was caring for her. She was always very pleased with herself when she remembered the words to songs (of which she must have known more than a thousand!). The only problem was that she could never remember which ones we'd sung so some of them got repeated many times. The power of music is amazing; when I was working with children with profound learning difficulties the one thing that always got a reaction was a good tune - and harmony used to get some very animated indeed.

It's been like a summer day down here too. How lovely to have birds nesting in your garden. Sad about the car tyre but no doubt worth the expense when it gives you so much more freedom. Your afternoon playing and singing those old songs sounds lovely, and you are quite right about not being able to resist buying a few more plants - I always did it.

You must have the energy of a 3 year old! I am exhausted just reading that.

You were busy! But I think that's what keeps us young at heart, no matter our age.

Lovely day. I like activities stacked end to end, and when it's over, feet up and done.

What a busy but fun day! It is so wonderful that your group entertains the Alzheimer's Society patients. I bet you all feel like you get as much back from them as you give! How sweet that you have baby birds in your yard - a sure sign of spring!

We went shopping yesterday, and returned with a Tunisian Phoenix Palm. What will we do with it; no idea!

That was an expensive tyre Pat, car problems never work out cheap these days. You're lucky to have the Blackbirds nesting, hopefully you won't have cats anywhere near your garden.

Pat, you can happily count yourself lucky that you only have to buy one tyre. If you want to drive your car in this region of Europe in winter you'd have to buy not only 4 winter tyres but also 4 extra wheels to put them one! And additionally pay a garage to store during summer if you didn't want to lug them back and forth yourself. Now reckon all that up!

One thing per day is enough for me.

Well a busy day Pat, but another glorious day today. The church has three jackdaw nests in the large round holes that decorate the East wall, and starlings who inhabit the small hole ;)
The crows are nesting in the copse behind, never known such a busy noisy time!

£109 for a tyre? Have you got low-profiles?

That sounds a busy but very enjoyable day!
We have had a cuckoo calling in the boundary oak trees over the past few days. Spring really is here.

All sounds good to me -except the price of the car tyre!
And, of course, you could not possibly, NOT buy ny plants....
I seem to be able to find money for books and plants even when other things get passed by!
