I took this photograph of an ash tree at the farm in 2001 and I suddenly remembered it when I awoke this morning to fog. There is a difference of course because here, on the left of the picture the
sky is already brightening up. No such luck today here in the town.
Although the car dashboard showed a temperature three degrees above freezing, because it was damp and foggy it somehow felt much colder. The tree I can see from my garden is an ash, but there the similarity ends because today I just can't see it.
The weather today here in North Yorkshire is cold, damp, foggy and has nothing at all going for it. The best thing is to hunker down, keep warm and hope it is better tomorrow.

I'm a little surprised at how cold it is there - I supposed that shows the extent of my ignorance about weather where you are.
Sounds like a good day to stay indoors.
After a dense grey sky, towards the end of the morning I saw blue sky and bright sun from my office window - it would have been perfect for a walk, but by the time I'll leave here, it will be dark again...
The photo is beautiful! I do like fog (of course I do not have to drive in it...).
That is a beautiful photo - very ethereal! I always think of Hardy's poem about the darkling Thrush at this time of year when the weather is as you describe it. Good idea to keep tucked up indoors.
No fog hereabouts but otherwise we have had the same thick cloudy, overcast sky all day. Cold and damp though the first morning for a few days without an icy lane. I have my air conditioning unit set to warm and can sit in a gentle warm breeze and dream of Summer.
Great photo. Seems like the whole of the country is suffering from this cold, damp weather at the moment.
Murky here too. Dark all day, no fog more a haze, sadly not from heat from the, not visible today, sun.
That is a good photo. 17 years ago.
I honestly don't know why the sun bothered rising today, a total waste of effort for it.
No sun in Suffolk, no rain either or fog - just depressingly grey and murky.
Perhaps tomorrow will be better
I do love the silhouette of trees against the sky at this time of year - beautiful! Frosty and bright here this morning but it became a bit damp and dark as the day went on. X
Some like the sun, some the snow, others like the rain, but nobody seems to like fog. Lets hope it brightens up tomorrow.
Exactly the same weather here in North Kent today except it was mist rather than fog - basically gloomy, cold, and damp and dark early.
It's that horrible damp cold weather. I really hate it. Bring on the sunshine.
What a lovely atmospheric photo Pat. Sorry you didn't have the sun breaking through today. It's so miserable when it's a cold wet fog and low light levels. I had an enjoyable walk this afternoon for about an hour and a half and saw the first Celendine leaves peeping through, and the first-seen leaves of Lords & Ladies. I shall report on the first flowers when I see them.
You stay warm now, you hear. Nice tree photo, by the way.
I can't believe it is all that time since I took the photograph. I could see that tree from my kitchen window.
We also had dense for in the morning, now it is cloudy.. temperature is showing not so cold, but I'm shivering,...
What an incredible photo, I think I'd have it enlarged and frame it.
Lovely photo.

We have had two grey, damp and very cold days in spite of there being no frost. The wind was slight but bitter.
Winter trees look so beautiful in misty conditions and your photo is lovely.
Hibernation is good on a cold damp day - I wish I could have stayed in instead of having to turn out for work!
Lovely photo you have captured.
Do I remember right that this beautiful tree was up as your blog header once?
Greetings Maria x
Fog is horrible, in Wolverhampton when I was a child we had smog, that yellow fume induced smell of a town.
Yes Maria, this is the tree which I had as a header. I loved that tree but luckily I can see a very similar ash tree from my window now thatI have moved.
A grey damp day here too. It gets in my bones.
What a great photograph! Trees outside the window are a prerequisite for any place I live. I'm glad you have an ash nearby.
Too right about the bones Gwil.
Beautiful photo! I love nature pics, sunrises and sets in particular. And the ash is magnificent in its simplicity!
