Bright Monday

Living alone is no joke as anyone amongst my readers who is in this position will testify.   However one tries to fill ones time, however many friends one has, the fact is that in the long run one comes home to an empty house ( apart in may case for a dear little dog companion).

Sometimes days are like this too.  According to my calendar for today, today should have been such a day and I earmarked it for those jobs which need doing but always get put to one side (cleaning out the cupboard under the sink in the kitchen, where I keep dusters, polishes etc.) and washing out the fridge.

But of  course it didn't turn out like that at all.  The lady who cleans for me on a Monday left at half past ten and since then it has been a whirl of people calling in to see me - and how welcome they have been.

When I had an hour to spare at lunch time I popped Tess in the car for the ride and we drove up  to the tip with her old bed and blanket (she has
just had a new one.  After that I parked in town,
did a quick bit of shopping and arrived home just as my gardener arrived.   No sooner had he gone than a friend walked past and stopped to chat and then my dear friend, W.  called in.   As she went my little seven year old neighbour from where I lived on the farm, popped in with some eggs for me. What a social whirl and how much better I felt for it.  Such a difference living here amongst people from living on the farm down a lonely lane.

Oh and in case you are wondering - when everyone had gone I did clean out the sink cupboard and wash out the fridge.   I shall now go and read my magazine, which arrived this morning and which I have not had time to open yet.

I'm so glad you bounced back from your bed-slide Pat. And the ribs must be better for you to be doing stooping and reaching jobs like the dreaded bottom cupboard!I always put that particular cupboard off as long as I can - I'm a 'Lazy Housewife' .

I am amazed that you found it necessary to clean out the sink cupboard already, I mean you have only been installed for a few weeks... I sorted out my section of the hot press the other week because it refused to accept anything else;managed to throw out a bagful of unwanted stuff and I check it every 2yrs.

Sliding out of bed is not a good plan. In the summer I got up for the loo and for the first time ever, I missed the bed when I went to sit on the edge of it! Gave me such a jolt and yet Keith slept on right through it!

I am so glad you have such good friends and life is a social whirl for you already. It sounds like living in the town again is just what you needed. We never see a soul here, and it is the same for one of my neighbours, even more off the beaten track than us. It's good to get together for a natter.

Well here's one of your readers who does enjoy living on his own, sorry to be different and only being 70 I still do my own cleaning and gardening. The gardening side I thoroughly enjoy, the cleaning side, well it doesn't get done as regular as it should but that's the joy of living on your own, only you see it.

You made me smile.

Like Heron, I was amazed at reading you already did those jobs so soon after moving in when some people do them about once a year! And like Derek, I do enjoy living on my own although I find it hard to leave from O.K.'s when I have spent the weekend there.
But overall, after reading your post I am just very glad to "see" that you must be much better now.

It's lovely that you have settled into your new environment so well and have so many people popping in to see you.

So pleased that your day was filled with surprise visitors. I hope there will be plenty more to follow.

I'm so glad that your move, though undoubtedly painful, has already proved to be the right decision.
Like some others I'm ashamed to say that my under sink cupboard is cleaned about once every six months.
I do feel exceedingly righteous when I've cleaned it or any of the other kitchen ones.
It's a pleasant shock to find them tidy the next time I open one up! Sue

You will sleep well tonight with all of that activity!

When I'm by myself I often don't see anyone for days. I rather like it that way.

My brother and I made a fifty mile round trip yesterday to see our 96 year old aunt. When we got there we found that we'd timed our visit perfectly as she had no other visitors that day, an unusual occurrence.

Just read about your fall - so glad you didn't hurt yourself and that friends came to find you! A day filled with people sounds lovely and definitely better than cleaning though since you did that as well you must have more energy than me.

Yes, we've recently moved from a dead-end street with three houses to a condominium complex, and on days when I'm feeling a bit mopey all I have to do is take my dog for a walk and I inevitably encounter someone to chat with for a moment. Sometimes that's all that's needed.

Sounds like a very busy day and a pleasant one too.

So glad you are getting lots of company!
Well done cleaning the cupboard under the sink - something I could put off indefinitely !

My attitude to cleaning the cupboard under the sink regularly is similar to the attitude of always wearing clean underclothes when you go to town in case you get knocked down and taken to hospital!!! Thanks everyone.

Your social calendar is a sight busier than mine. I'm a smidge jealous. :)

You are a busy bee Pat, compared to me. I've lived alone for two years now at the city house and absolutely love it. It is the best thing that has happened to me in 45 years. Isn't it funny how different things are for each of us...

Blimey. Your life is more hectic than most other people's I know, especially mine!

You seem to be gathering information about water-leaks in Dubai, Weave! I am sure they take water leaks very seriously over there.
