A Quiet Day

In twenty minutes it is time for the farming programme from Mull - I enjoy it, it is pure escapism from my point of view and I can really relax and watch it.  So this will be a hurried post.

Tess is flaked out with exhaustion because friend S has taken her on a lovely long walk.   I am so grateful to S - at least I know that Tess has had a good walk today and I don't feel guilty.   Tess was very hungry and couldn't wait for her tea - another sign that she has had good exercise.

I have purposely had a quiet day today as most days I get very tired both physically and mentally.   So I have done very little.   I did unpack the sealed box containing my winter jumpers - when I packed them I fully expected to be moved by now but it is rapidly getting too chilly for T shirts and cardigans. Now a nice neat row of jumpers hangs in my wardrobe - a sure sign that tomorrow it will turn warm and we shall have an Indian Summer.

Until tomorrow my friends.

And we are the other direction for a week. Very warm days, though cold at night.

Woodburner alight and I'm wearing a jumper but tomorrow the forecast is for sun so I may well be back to baggy shorts!

Unpacking those winter jumpers is either a sure sign it will get warmer or a sure sign the paper work will be done and you can suddenly move! Life seems to work that way sometimes! Enjoy your Farm program!

Lets hope you don't have to pack away your jumpers and get the summer clothes out again!! I did say Solicitors are not known for their speed. The Scottish system is so much quicker we bought our cottage - all done in 6 weeks - would have been 4 weeks but they had to wait for us to have a trip up there to sign something! Enjoy your program it is good to have a quiet day now and then.

A blankek, a jumper and a pair of fur boots will keep you warm.

I don't even own a jumper (sweater, cardigan, but I sure wish we had some cooler air right now. We reached 94F (34.5C) the other day, which is as hot as it has ever been here. Glad Tess had a good walk and that you had a good rest.

Haha, if you having dug out your heavy sweaters will give everybody an extended summer so be it, right?!

As usual, Pat, I have been reading your postings in little batches, and was thinking about your ponderings as to Tess's future. I am living in town now, with close neighbours, but my garden and backyard are fenced and gated, and so Callie and Bruce are able to go out safely, and are not confined to the house, Bruce didn't live with me when we first moved to town, but now I am alone (almost five years, and it doesn't get easier) I am glad to have him as he lets me know when anything unusual is going on, or when we have visitors. Bruce is the same age as Tess...we do have a couple of walks daily, but only to the corner and down the lane as I have taken to using a cane now, and am not into long hikes!!!! I think he would adjust and be glad to still be with you - don't think you are being 'selfish'!!!

Quiet days are good. Gives us a chance to rest and savor what we see and hear, touch and taste. Think or don't think. Hope you enjoyed it.

We had a cold night but looks like it's going to be a sunny day. Difficult to know what to wear at this time of year.

I'm afraid I've put the electric blanket back on the bed here in Nottinghamshire. No doubt I'll be chucking the covers back whilst sweating though!

The temperature fluctuates daily down here - I am still in t-shirts but cardigans are not far away. I am going away shortly for two weeks so I suppose I had better take something of everything to be on the safe side.
In reply to your comment on my blog - yes, I will be making more books and started one recently on a weekend course with Frances Pickering which I hope to fill with memories of my garden. It will be a slow job as I would like to draw most of the entries and need to practice a lot first. I have unpacked all my textile and art things but they need to be properly organised before I can really get down to work.
I am glad you are taking things gently some days - it has to be done sometimes, doesn't it?x

Ah, the wonderful island of Mull. Hope you enjoyed the programme. On the island of Mull I had an experience I'll never forget. I was suddenly really close to a golden eagle which was standing on a rock and facing into the wind. I observed it for five minutes before it flapped away. It's a great place to see nature. Passengers on the Ardnamurchan-Tobermory ferry even saw a migrating whale in the channel.

Today I am in a winter jumper and a thermal vest. It is raining but not particularly cold, just cheerless. Lots to do but still it is chill.y

No such weather here in the dry south. Breezy with a mixture of sun and cloud and warm when the sun is out.

Forgive me, Weave, but what are winter jumpers. I live in California so that should explain my ignorance. ;-)

We all need quiet days occasionally, Weaver, and it's not lazy! It's sensible!
As for jumpers ... thankfully we have only needed to pop the heating on first thing in the morning for about an hour and then the house has been warm enough for the next 24 hours - we live in South Devon, one of the mildest parts of the country. Sometimes, though, rather than put the heating on of an evening we have hot water bottles at our backs, these help aches and pains and keep us warm without making the sitting room too stuffy when the weather is still reasonably mild.

Friday morning here and cloudless blue skies and sunshine, a lovely still and autumnal day.

I haven't commented for ages but i do keep up with your blog.
We are facing at east a week of extremely high temperatures, some places in Queensland at least 14 degrees above average. Our winter was the warmest and driest on record - after exceeding our annual average rainfall by end of March courtesy of Cyclone Debbie. The weather is certainly very strange these days.
I certainly hope you move soon - and take Tess with you. Cheers
