My Saviour

I came home from lunch out (not a rare occasion as I am sure you know) to discover Derek, my gardener, here and knee deep in weeds and grass cuttings.   I really don't know what I would do without him.   He spends four hours here and the whole garden looks magical as a result.

Luckily he also works for the lady where I am moving so I can continue to rely on his services there.

Another week has passed with absolutely no sign of progress with my moving date, so I shall just have to try and relax and not think about it over the weekend otherwise the whole thing will drive me scatty.

How frustrating it must be waiting for that moving date. I am sure you are keen to get settled into your new home.

My garden is so full of weeds I'm embarrassed, but it's too hot to deal with it.
Worrying about your move won't speed it up, to just keep going out to lunch with friends.

I am amazed by how long it takes to sell/buy a house i the UK. At least 3 blogs I read the houses are "sold" but paperwork/lawyers/agents seem to be very laissez-faire about the whole deal.
I have sold many houses and a short escrow is ideal especially if the paperwork is done. I understand there can be problems if there is some funny business on one side. I see no reason for this sale to drag on like this.
The last home I sold, at Christmas yet, was sold in two weeks and the escrow closed in one month.

Hope you can move soon !
cheers, parsnip

So good to have reliable people to help with gardening and so on!
It really is a shame that your move is on hold. I don't understand the reasons, but then again I am not at all familiar with property buying and selling, and it must be extra difficult with working farm.

You can't beat a good Derek.
It took me six months to completion when I bought this house, you lie in bed wondering what the hell solicitors do each day.

Solicitors can be the best and the worst at delaying the paper work... I have bought and sold several times and on one transaction I engaged a second solicitor to keep watch over the first; this cost a bit more however, it did put a fire under the first to speed him up.

I too would like a Derek. I do hope you are not waiting around for too much longer. This part of the moving process is exhausting and frustrating. X

I dont understand what the delay is, but then its none of my business! In Scotland its a different system, once the offer is in and accepted its go go go. Hope it quickens up. We are on our third lot of gardeners. They were honest, prefer to do paving etc but have come when they said and cut the grass, even in the pouring rain.....And it was still a good cut.

You must be getting very frustrated with the lack of progress ref. your move. I hope it soon all falls into place. Meanwhile, you have a magic gardener - gosh, I could do with one of those!!

Add in a probate in the middle of it and a farm business and you can be talking many months. Farm sales round here usually aim to complete at Michaelmas but this is not always achieved.

Most houses I have bought and sold without chain and with vacant possession take 15 weeks which takes into.account that the solicitor always go on holiday during the process and nothing happens in his absence.

It is amazing how slowly the legal wheels turn in relation to house sales. It's worse than watching paint dry. By the way, will your butler and kitchen maid also be transferring to Leyburn when you move into Weaver Towers?

It is a worry waiting for solicitors to do their 'searches' etc, but I think at the end of the process you feel safe. There have been half-a-dozen house sales in our small village this summer, a lot considering the number there is, and two have used 'Purple Bricks' the internet company.

I do sympathise Pat, and hope you can occupy yourself in the meantime to keep the frustration at bay. Everything seems to come together quite suddenly, especially when you have been waiting for weeks and there are always too many things that can't be done until the last minute. After two very busy days I am taking it easy today. Enjoy your lunches out and strolls with Tess and good luck.x

It looks like some faulty planning or misunderstanding with your house selling/ moving process.
Well, what's done is done. Now, patience and everything will soon be solved.
