Weather

The weather is rarely, if ever, right for us in the  UK.   Perhaps we have just got used to finding something wrong with it all the time.   If it is cold then we complain and if it is hot we complain.   Today it is hot; the pollen count is high. the sun is at its highest (the Solstice is on Wednesday) and really the day is best viewed from a chair somewhere in the shade.   Poor Tess desperately wants to go for her walks but as soon as we set off she has to keep lying down for a rest in the grass, and I only take her in the coolest parts of the day.

I don't ever remember the wild roses (Rosa Canina for the most part) being as good as they are this year.   They have climbed to the top of so many of the bushes and small trees and, if you can get near enough to smell them, their delicate scent is exquisite.

Sunday lunch out was the order of the day again today - four of us - the other three having salmon and me having mushroom and red pepper stroganoff.   Sunday is a family day and we four agree that it is the hardest day when one is alone, so what better way to pass it than with friends.  Next week one of our four will be away and another is busy so we shall be down to two.

I have a busy week this week luckily.  Everything seems to be moving so slowly with the farm and I need to fill my time so that there is little time left for thinking about things.  The weather is set to get a little bit cooler towards the end of the week and I am sure that will please Tess - fur coats are not the best clothes to wear in this heat.

As you say we want the sunshine but when it arrives it's too hot. We solved that problem by having our feet in three cool North sea most of the day!

I struggle to breathe in the humidity we are experiencing. I wish I could think slow down! I never will accept the disability label. Poor Tess. I guess one consolation is it wont last!!

Forgot to say I have never seen so much blooming on plants this year. Everything.

Hot here too - I have been hiding indoors whenever possible. I think I must find some like minded friends to have lunch with on Sundays - that sounds like a grand idea!

I think the old Sundays when nothing seemed to happen are still fresh in our minds, but this is from a townie.

We will be 109 today but tomorrow 114 + for several days. !
I would like to have some friends to have lunch with on Sunday but I am more and more house bound so I stay in especially on these hot days. Quiet is good.

cheers, parsnip and thehamish

Hot here too, but not as bad as angry parsnip. Our cat just lays in a puddle of fur.

It is hot here, too - what a surprise! ;-) We have a wonderful ceiling fan that keeps us comfortable. I go out for my early morning (just at dawn) run or walk and then stay in the shade for the rest of the day. My only complaint is the biting doctor flies (aka yellow flies) that are fierce right now and ambush you as soon as you step outside. Fortunately they are late risers and so I don't encounter them at dawn. Lunch with friends on Sundays sounds delightful.

I was saying just recently that when we're young the weather is ALWAYS perfect, but when we're older it never is. Personally I love the sun, but less when it's over 30 C.

My terrier doesn't have a major problem with the current high temperatures and burning sun but to make things easier for both of us, as I'm awake anyway, we go out at 5.00 in the morning when it's nice and cool. I guess it must be difficult to be alone if you're the kind of person that needs other people's company, I live on my own and thoroughly enjoy it.

It's terribly hot here, too. And the humidity makes it hard to breathe. Our summers are nearly unbearable.

Having a "friends day" on Sundays sounds like an excellent idea!

I like hot days but try to be sensible when it comes to drinking enough water and not going out for a run when it is hottest. Fortunately, I manage to keep my flat at a pleasant temperature most of the time, unless we have over 30 Celsius for weeks on end, with it not cooling down over night. But even then, instead of complaining, I rather say "Hey, it is summer, after all!" and am happier about that than about wet and cold summers as we have sometimes had them in the past.
It is the right season for ice creams and lovely cold drinks in the evening! The bad weather will return soon enough...

Sounds really summery to me!
Warm here too at last.

Coming off of being sick for too long a time, I want to go out, but the humidity and heat are too much for me to handle.

How fortunate you are to have your Sunday group. True friends get us through the hard times.

I'm pretty useless in the heat, I love the cool of the house, as does Suky the Pug.

The polytunnel reached over 40 degrees yesterday so I couldn't even bear to be in there to water it until after 9pm, so for me at the moment it's early morning and late night gardening and veggie growing and lots of watering on the agenda every day ... for both plants and chickens.

Your Sunday lunches sound a lovely way to spend the middle part of the day, it's nice to be with friends especially ones that have lots in common with you.

Poor Tess. If only you could unzip her fur coat and put it in a drawer. She would be so much cooler if she was hairless - perhaps wearing some polka dot bikini bottoms for modesty's sake.

Good friends are essential in our lives, especially at times of trial or loss. My sister just came home on hospice. Our mother and I are taking turns caring for her. I have 5 wonderful friends from my youth... they are like sisters to me and are such a great support!
I think of you and all the changes in your life over these past few months and wish I were close enough to have you over for tea.
