A Successful Day.

It is surprising now how some days are so much more successful than others and I end them feeling a sense of satisfaction.   Today is one of those days.

First of all, before going to the Church Coffee Morning, I went into town to buy a Guardian Newspaper and also to deposit three plastic bags of the farmer's sweaters in the deposit box for The Salvation Army.  Another job to tick off my list.

After lunch my son came with an armful of boxes to take more books to the Oxfam Shop in Richmond for me.   We packed the boxes and then I went with him and his wife into the town and while he took the books we sat in the car and then all three of us went into the Deli and bought a few things.

I came home and in a 'firm' mood I brought downstairs all the papers I had amassed on my desk, sorted them out and put them into laabelled files.

My last job of the day was to e mail the accountant to ask her when the accounts would be done.   She returned the e mail within five minutes to say they were done and she would be contacting me on Monday about coming over to tie up loose ends.

Now if that isn't a satisfying day I don't know what is!

The only thing that could have the day better was if you bought a
Lasagna from the Lady who sells them at the Church Coffee Morning.

cheers, parsnip

Is the purging of the books in preparation for your move into town? Books are often the most difficult things for us to sort through, decide what to keep, decide what to get rid of, and even where to take them. It is nice to have a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment at the end of a day, isn't it? -Jenn

You had a productive day, it is satisfying isn't it? Glad you went to the church coffee time for some social time and to the deli. I hope you bought some delicious treats for yourself.

Thank you for sharing your journey at this stage of your life. Much of what you write is appreciated. I suspect you have always been a very calm and organized person and get on with whatever hand you are dealt in life.

Take care.

Pat, I loved your expression of having a "firm" mood. It is a feeling whose arrival I always appreciate. I cannot always manage to invite it!

Your day certainly does sound productive..an excellent mix. xo

It's nice when we can reach the end of a day and know we have achieved things in it.

That sounds like a day of great accomplishment. At this stage of life often such stellar days are followed by several of 'puttering.'

I've not faced widowhood, but have found in our various moves around the country that it takes considerable time to find a 'new normal' and settle into the next phase of living.

I only ever have days like that when I start my day by making a list of things that need to be achieved. It should be easy enough to do but somehow I don't do it very often!

Well done, you achieved a lot in a single day.

So satisfying to know one has accomplished things....Little by little it will all be accomplished......Be well, dear Weaver.

Very pleased you had a successful day. I was just watching a video of Dr Bill Frankland age 105 doing his morning exercises on the BBC. And what a cheery optimistic sort he is. It made me feel good just to see him.

A most satisfactory day, I would say. It's good to be able to tick a few jobs off the list each day. Hope the sun shines for you tomorrow and the wind does not blow so cold, so you and Tess can have a pleasant walk.

CAN I JUST SAY WHAT I HAVE SAID SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST SIX WEEKS . YOUR DAILY COMMENTS AND WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT HAVE REALLY KEPT ME GOING. "VIRTUAL FRIENDS" MIGHT BE WHAT SOME FOLK THINK YOU ARE BUT I SEE YOU AS SUCH REAL AND VALUED FRIEND.S HELPING ME THROUGH A VERY DIFFICULT TIME AND I THANK YOU ALL MOST SINCERELY

I firmly believe that saying busy and being with friends and family are the things that help us manage this difficult time.
Even when we know it's what they would want, getting rid of their clothes and other items can be heart-rending, and I'm sure he's very proud of you.

Tic marks are so rewarding. I need to make a new list of things to tic off.

I'm envious Pat. I can't get that many things crossed off my list. It does make you satisfied. My oldest daughter was just mentioning last night that she can't get it all done like she used to. I told her to just work at a few things at a time - little things, but I was thinking to myself, it's all down hill from here. ;)

Dear Pat, - I seem to read your posts in little batches, and they all leave me most satisfied.
It is so good to hear of your daily doings and your outings with friends and I am glad that you are getting all the papery things that plague us when we say farewell.

I love days like that; where everything just works for us, rather than against us. I wish you many more.

Oh my! What a lot of 'ticks' off the list! I'd suggest you sit down now with a glass of wine, before you're too tired to get up and pour yourself one!

When my husband's father died, he'd been in a rest home down the road from us for a year and so all his underclothes, though nearly brand new, were named. I was delighted that the Night Shelter - where the down-and-outs can go for a meal, a shower and a comfortable bed - were please to take them, so I was able to re-home every garment he had. That gave me great consolation, that they were not wasted.

We have a once a year City Mission book fair, and they store books for months ahead of time. Last year they had 90,000 books on sale!! People queue for hours to get in! Isn't it great that these places can gain from our recycling!

Now, go and have that dram!

Slowly things fall into place, you are very organised Pat, and sorting through your books will probably off load one worry from your mind. Hope you had a good night's sleep.

Thanks to all of you.

I'm a bit of a 'firm' person myself. I tend to use the expression 'head-on'. I have found that it's often easier in the long run to gather a bit of steam then crack on with a job, no matter how unpleasant. The sense of satisfaction is always worth the effort.
If I ever have to move again, books will be my issue, lots and lots of them!

Jennyff said...

Definitely a result, well done. Here's to many more such positive days.

It's a good feeling when everything falls into place. And sorting and eliminating is also a light feeling.

What a successful day indeed! So glad the paperwork is coming together and you are staying busy. It has been unusually cool here in my part of California... I can only imagine how chilly it must be there with that cool wind.

It's nice when things fall in order and we feel an accomplishment after doing some task. My grandson, Zayn is visiting this weekend and the weather was lovely. We painted some wrought iron furniture and fixed a bird feeder.

I actually love days like that when things that need to get done, get done. It is such a satisfied feeling at the end of such a day.

I am 'cracking on' again today and, according to my solicitor, the end may well be in sight although still hidden in the mists of time.
