Wednesday

How kind and thoughtful everyone is being.   I am being carried along on a tidal wave of goodwill for which I am so grateful.

Today - a month to the day since the farmer died - I had to go into town to do various jobs.   So, after taking Tess for her morning walk, I drove into town and walked round getting rid of all the paperwork I had earmarked for various places.   Then I had half an hour to spare before I went to collect a friend for lunch out (her treat) so I popped into the Posthorn cafe for a quick Italian coffee then on to collect friend D.

We drove the few hundred yards to Tennants cafe where we had  a delicious shepherd's pie lunch followed by an orange juice - and of course a nice chat.   I had scarcely been home five minutes before friend S called to take Tess for a walk.   As she walks very much quicker than I do Tess would of course enjoy her walk much more than usual.

Now it is 4pm and I have just one more 'office' job to do before I relax for the evening.   I have always done cryptic quizzes for our local nature reserve and although I stopped them completely during the farmer's last illness I feel ready to pick up the pen and start a new one, so that is on my list of things to begin to do.

Today has been very cold and colder weather is forecast for the week-end so it will be back to winter woollies.

The quickly called General Election has taken most of us by surprise.  I am a bit fed up with politics and at present can't rustle up much interest.   I do know, however, that it will dominate the news for the next seven weeks.   That and, no doubt, all the postulating over North Korea by Donald Trump.   What troublesome times we live in.   Sometimes I wish I lived in isolation with no television, no newspaper and no access to any news.   But of course that would probably be boring after a few days.

There's more good than evil in this world and you deserve all that thoughtfulness and kindness. I enjoy reading your day to day accounts. It might be because I also live in a rural area so the pace of life is reflected in the passing of seasons.
Right now it is a glorious spring in my garden and the fields are golden with wheat.

I'd also like to avoid the news at the moment but then on the other hand I do like to know what's going on! I've been reading a wartime book where of course the only news was on the radio, perhaps that's the answer as the radio news is shorter than TV!

We are loving our new home, it's so quiet here today, with no wind we can't even hear the one main road 2 miles away.

Have fun thinking up the quiz this evening.

The election call was all over the news here last night, too, no matter which channel I chose on TV. That you can not muster much interest for politics right now is very understandable; you have enough to deal with in your own life.
I hope the paperwork all went smoothly and people were kind. I remember what it was like when I had to make the round 7 years ago. Some simply didn't know what to say, and only one person I spoke to appeared really sincere in offering condolences.

Yes, keep warm - it has snowed here yesterday and today, too, and I am wearing scarf, gloves and padded coat again!!

It has a lot to do with the person you are that people are so kind. What goes around comes around. Ah politics. Been part of my adult life. But I will leave it at that. I keep it out of my blog! Lovely weather here but there is always that nip. Hope you stay warm.

I never watch the news, glance at headlines on the internet and pray the Trump gets bored with his job and resigns.
I'm not surprised that people are treating you so well, you've earned it with your personality, kindness to others and outlook on life.
Good luck on your quizzes .

Nice to have friends isn't it! We don't watch the news and haven't done so for months, nor listen to it. I do not want it sensationalising itself with someone else's opinions in my living room. I will make up my own mind. If I want it I find it, if I don't I don't.

What a pleasant task you have in preparing the questions for your quiz. That and regular meetings with good friends must be a great help.
I too am fed up with politics and the news in general, but I make an effort to know what is going on. However, my thoughts are taken up with finding somewhere to live as I have just sold the house!
Keep warm - I hope I don't wear out the heating switch - it has been off and then on again so many times recently.

We don't watch the news often Pat... maybe once a week to...catch up with what is going on.. I get fed up that there is no impartial news source to get your information from... I just want the facts...... Once a week and we've had our fill....... It also irritates me that they don't 'follow up ' on stories..they tell you something when its 'big news' then nothing after the next 'big thing' comes around... i need to sit down and write you a 'snail mail' don't i?? !! :) Not alot going on here but working on the house.... sigh... Sounds like you had a nice time out and about... and lovely that someone helps you walk Tess.. :) I'm sure Tess loves all the attention.. :) Hugs! deb

Try living in the USA. That's all that's in the newspapers and on tv. I quit watching. Trump is everywhere and its very disheartening. Although is has allowed me to do more things around the house. Anything but watch another Trump report. I agree times are very scary. I like your idea, lets all lunch with friends, walk our little beasties and return to those hobbies that we put to the wayside! Glad to hear you're keeping busy. Don't worry, Spring will eventually arrive.

My husband is a news-hound. Yesterday we got back from town and were sitting on the patio with a cuppa, when the Postie arrived, and said "What do you think about this snap election then?" For once we were behind the curve! It felt like it must have done to be a country dweller in the times when you only got fresh news if you went to market or someone called on you. Quite a novelty!

I am glad that you are out and about with your friends, and I know you always enjoy eating out at Tennants.

You have a far better brain than mine if you can compose cryptic quizzes. My husband and I met over the Telegraph crossword at the pub. I was delighted if I got the occasional answer - he and friends could do them easily, but the fun was totally spoilt if Hugh came in, as he had been to Cambridge reading Classics, and would romp through a puzzle leaving us trailing behind . . .

If the farmer was looking down I think he would be pleased to see that slowly and gently you are beginning to carry on with the rest of your life - not moping around, feeling sorry for yourself. It's the only way - to keep on keeping on.

Life and friendships are a big circle, and now your kindness is returning to you, in perfect poetry.

I've been on a bit of a sabbatical from blogging for the past six months, and only saw today that your husband, the farmer, passed away a few weeks ago. So sorry to hear that, Pat, but it appears that you are adjusting well to the transition. All the best in the days and months ahead.

Karma!!
In the early 1900s, one of the Pankhursts came to our Welsh market town and spoke to a huge crowd, which included my grandmother! My gran was made of stern stuff, so I have always felt the need to vote, and pay enough attention to the news to feel I'm voting for the right thing, but I can't watch too much as I would end up in total despair over the state of the world. It's going to be a long few months.

People find it easy to be nice to you, Weav; your kindness beings out the best in folks.
We don't have a TV or a radio and I select my internet news sources carefully. BBC News on line is my first choice, followed by The Guardian, CNN, The Atlantic, and NY Times.
Stay warm.

I heard - on the news, it must be said - that it reached minus 4 in Suffolk last night. H.I. worried about the fruit tree blossom, but I think that they are resilient. They have it in them to blossom more than once in a season. sometimes more than twice.

As many have said already you come across S such a kind person that I'm sure everyone is delighted to be able to walk along side you and help where they can. Often it will help them too so do allow yourself to accept help.
You are already back into helping others by giving lifts, setting quizzes etc! Sue

We had rain this morning, but it has stopped for now and the sun is out. Looking out my window I see a patch of Black Eyed Susans. Black Eyed Susans are one of my favorite wild flowers. They are strikingly yellow in the afternoon sun. Much nicer to think about than Donald Trump or the news.

I was delighted to see your young Prince Harry on the news tonight talking candidly about troubles in his personal life and at work, which he believes now is due to burying his grief. Internalizing the trauma of losing a loved one will only surface later, and at 12 years old he had suffered a double whammy---the divorce of his parents then the loss of his mother.

Yours is not an easy journey.

I am glad to hear that you are doing o.k. and that you have many good friends!

I think the problem with the news is that it is repeated throughout the day till you get thoroughly sick of it. At 6.30 this morning I can hear gunshots over the field, depopulating the rabbit overspill I suppose, we have little baby rabbits on the front lawn as well, sweet but destructive to the plants.

Thank you everyone.
The trouble with setting quizzes (this one on headgear) is finding thirty five to
forty pieces about which I can set an easy cryptic clue. I can't make the clues too difficult or people will not buy the quiz sheet (£1 each) - they like to be able to do almost if not all of them.
Still cold here and set to get colder over the week end. At least if it is very cold I have plenty of indoor jobs to do a the moment.

An egg is born!

The Glaslyn Osprey couple laid their first egg of 2017 yesterday.

How proud they are. And volunteers who show us the videos too!

So good to hear that you are feeling cherished by friends - you deserve it.
I'm in agreement with 'Brenda of Bristol' who 'went viral' the other day about the forthcoming election! Take care x
