Weather

Today has been positively the worst day of the winter so far, (alright it is still officially autumn, but believe me you wouldn't have guessed it here today).

My hair appointment is always on a Thursday at 1pm and I drove down in the pouring rain.   When I came out I even went in the car the three hundred yards or so to the supermarket because of the heavy rain.   Luckily I found a place right outside the shop (it was so wet that there were few people around).   The one good thing was that the supermarket was virtually empty, so I could wander round at my leisure and collect the few things I wanted.

The man in front of me in the checkout queue was so frazzled that he left his bank card in the machine.   The woman on the checkout ran out after him but really couldn't remember what he looked like (neither could I) so she just had to put it in a safe place and hope he realised and came back for it.

Arriving home, the farmer had lit the wood burner and we spent the rest of the afternoon sitting by it -him reading the paper and doing the brain exercise page- me continuing to knit.   When I have finished this baby cardigan I will put photographs of them all on here to show how busy I have been.   (Only three weeks to go now).

Off back to the warmth now.   It has finally stopped raining but I can't see a single star so it must still be cloudy.

This is our last day of summer as our first freeze is due tonight. My poor flowers. The wind is gusting hard and it is very warm so a change is coming. We've had an unusually late fall, but I'm not complaining. Shorts and flip flops have been nice.

Our morning started lovely and mild then we had a Tornado whip through we got caught on the edge of it, once it passed all was calm and we had some blue skies

We thought out office block was being hit by a tornado and everybody left their desks. 2.30pm this afternoon.

Grey weather is so dispiriting.

I'll just keep quiet. No, sorry, can't help myself. Glorious blue skies and sunshine here.

When the checkout girl ran out after that fellow, I trust you took full advantage of the opportunity to grab a handful of banknotes from the till.

In Kentucky, USA we are having a rather unusually long warm autumn. We are greatly in need of rain.
There is something very special about a wood fire on a chilly day, much more warming than central heating!

A bit mixed here. Cold and drizzly one minute, and sunshine the next. We always light the fire in the evenings!

"Banknotes in the till" - I thought everybody paid with cards these days.
It's rained part of most days down here in North Kent lately, though it's remained fairly mild. Still a long way to go to re-fill our ditches, etc, after the four month drought but at least the ground is nice and soft and green again

It's become unseasonably mild again here, with yesterday reaching 12 Celsius - it felt more like March than November! The birds obviously thought the same, as by their sounds you would have thought they are looking for mates and building nests already. The sun was out, too, but today is different: still mild, but VERY windy, and fast-moving clouds in the sky. The wind will probably take down the last remaining leaves from the cherry tree in front of my kitchen window.

Hope the hair didn't get ruined in the rain.

The comment above mine looks a bit spamy a bit suspicious. I'd delete it immediately. Unless you know different.

Sounds like a typically miserable November day. Everything is soggy down here too but we seem to have escaped the torrential rain other parts of the country have had. Thank Heaven for wood burning stoves - our neighbour has one and I inhale the lovely scent of burning logs which wafts over the fence.

Has anybody noticed that the clock times on comments here seem to be about 10 hrs behind. I sent my comment at about 5.30 this morning and yet it is timed at 21.24 yesterday evening. People who commented after me have times of the very early hours of this morning.
