Stormy weather.

Reading this morning's paper and then seeing the six o';News tonight, I realise just how very bad the weather has been in the South of the country.

We are not all that big a country so it seems odd that this, the first real storm of the winter, should behave in such a way.   The strip in the South had inches of rain and strong winds - and ultimately bad flooding; the extreme North had snow and in the middle it was just breezy and cloudy.   Although not a bad day here it wasn't the kind of day that made you feel like going out.   So we stayed in by the fire.

Today remnants of that stormy weather have reached us and it has been blowing a gale and pouring with rain for most of the day.   The wind is blowing directly from the North here so it has also been bitterly cold.   Even Tess had to be coaxed out for a utility walk.

It seems to be set to blow itself out by tomorrow night, but in the meantime there seems to be much disruption down in the South of the country and once again serious flooding.   Why does it always seem to happen just before Christmas?

Keep warm everyone - and sit it out, wherever you are - it is on the way out.   My thoughts, as always in severe gales, lie with those at sea.

When rain from the north lashes our next door neighbour's gable end wall, we sometimes get leaks in part of our kitchen and that's what happened today. Thankfully the rain has eased off now so the we can remove the bowls and buckets. Thanks a bunch Angus!

Colin is in contact on facebook with a couple from Suffolk who moved to Calderdale a couple of years ago and they had 6 inches of snow the other day - Brrrrr.

I noticed the media, i.e. the BBC news last night, were looking on the black side last night as usual by warning people with flooded roads outside their houses that this was the first of winter and many more would, of course, naturally, without doubt as sure as eggs are eggs, follow. Why can't the media just stop all of this. It gets very boring. Perhaps if we all tried to look on the bright side life would not be so bad. I do.

I hope you are safe! Bad weather is not a good thing for anyone!

It's been windy enough to remove the last of the apples from the trees here, and today we had very heavy icy rain all day. The birds are on double rations! We had to go out to get the car repaired today, and I did some Christmas shopping, but I was never so glad to get back home and put the central heating on, turn on the Hergom and light the wood burner!

Hoping there isn't local flooding, as our river was up high earlier and standing water on the lane close to the river, where it comes off the field.

I feel sorry for the folks in the West Country and South who had it so much worse than us.

Always the same here in Kent, we have a four month drought and then when the rain eventually arrives it doesn't know when to stop.
Plus I've spent the last three days in bed with flu and feel absolutely drained now.

A very calm day here yesterday, weather-wise; beautiful sunrise but then a solid grey sky all day, almost no wind, and still mild after the spring-like Sunday (15 Celsius and blue skies).
But it is late autumn/winter, after all, and so it should come as no surprise to anybody that there are storms and rain and snow in the northern hemisphere. It's called seasons...

Having said that, I really am sorry for everyone who is suffering, either at sea or on their land, with the effects of storms and flooding.

Well my daughter lives in the Calderdale, and yesterday she put on a 'gif' of the sirens warning of flooding. They have a basement which floods, but have recently had installed (thanks to the government) a pump which pumps it out onto the road, probably to other people's basement who have used the money for different things! Wet and windy here, the wind roared through the trees last night I feared one would land on the chicken coop....

Certainly no weather for those at sea. There has been localised flooding down here and lots of traffic disruption - I haven't heard of any more than that for our area, but others have had far worse. It rained nonstop yesterday and was so dark and dismal, but there is better news for the end of the week when it should be dry once more.
The garden looks very sad and is covered in leaves and dead plants which have done their stuff and need removing - maybe on Friday.
Keep warm and dry.

Thanks everyone. You all seem to have survived unscathed.
