Wednesday

We had an especially lovely Poetry meeting this afternoon as our hostess, W, has a very Special Birthday coming up shortly.  Secretly we have managed to buy her a piece of silver, which she collects.   Friend S also baked a super cake (which had mashed pineapple and mashed banana in it and was delicious) so, apart from the poetry it was all a huge success.

The poetry, as usual, was varied - some serious, some light-hearted.   J, as usual read her favourite Betjamen; we had a good laugh, a lot of lovely poetry and I am sure we all came home having thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

The Autumn colours are just coming into their maturity here in the Dales.   This is the Rowan tree I can see from my kitchen window.   Hopefully, over the next few days. I will have more beautiful photographs of our magnificent Autumn colours.

If not too much trouble, could someone take a picture of the piece of silver just before it's presented to her. I'd love to see what you found.

Looking forward to the pictures of your autumn colors too.

My, my....that cake sounds delicious. Buttercream frosting?

I wonder how your extracts from "A Shropshire Lad" were received. I hope the others didn't boo you.

Birthday greetings to your friend when her birthday arrives. I'm sure she will be delighted with her piece of silver.
Lovely to see one of your hens looking for tasty morsels at the base of your rowan tree. The leaves everywhere are gradually becoming more and more colourful.

Still not really getting the autumn colours yet, lots of leaves still on the trees.

I did not know, but do now, a Rowan is a type of ash tree.

I am very much looking forward to seeing more autumn pictures of the Dales! The only time I ever came to Yorkshire in autumn was the year my husband died, for his funeral service in Barnsley at the Garden of Remembrance. That was mid-November 2009, and I remember it wasn't very cold, just wet, and trees were either already bare or with brown leaves.
Your poetry meeting sounds like a very nice get-together. Do you take turns in hosting it?

Sorry Gail, but i didn't read you request until after the piece had been given to her, but I will ask her tomorrow when I see her again.

And really YP - disapproval of The Shropshire Lad??? Spring would never be the same if I didn't always read them 'Loveliest of trees the cherry now.'

I love the rowan tree it has many myths attached, love it on the moors where the birds seem to scatter the seed. Saw a sweet video just now, half a dozen chickens rescued from a battery farm, it was titled 'Friends not Food'. Feel guilty now after getting some chicken out for tea tonight!
