Home again.

Someone is pleased to be home and has slept almost non-stop since her arrival!

We came home hoping that 'our' swallows and house martins would have arrived, but no such luck.   One pair of swallows are nesting in the old milking parlour but as yet there are no more and no sign at all of house martins or swifts.   I expect the weather has been too cold for them.

In Edam, as we sat in the square, the air was full of the sight and sound of swifts.   But the temperature was almost eighty and that is what brings them in.   We did also see a stork's nest which was a first for me.

I am putting on an early post as my Broadband connection is only intermittent.  Today the farmer is walking with his walking group and friend W and I have booked a Sunday lunch - and so the summer lunching programme has begun again.   I might add to this post to tell what we ate later on if I am still on line.

In Edam you sat in a square? Surely, give the shape of their cheeses, you sat in a circle!

Love the photo of Tess. She looks very contented.

Going for a walk and going for a lunch with a friend sound like the best kind of Sunday activities - right after staying in bed until one is ready to get up, without the "help" of an alarm clock.

Tess is the picture of contentment. Welcome back!

Tess looks so relaxed and content in her basket. Maybe we are not the only species who appreciate their own beds.
I hope you are having similar weather to us today - it's perfect for gardening, walking or going out for lunch.
The swifts obviously know more about the weather than we do! I suppose they'll come when they are ready.

Just the sight of Tess in her basket makes me feel very relaxed. I'd better have another sip of coffee and get going! The day is still young. xo

We have swifts, and last night saw house martins feeding over my parent's house, which I've never seen before

Tess is the picture of contentment. As good as it is to travel, it is wonderful to come home. One of the nicest things is that old routines are new again.

Our swallows only arrived the other week, late this year and not as many as we had before.

I'm so glad you're back!
Tess looks oh, so very comfortable in her little bed. She must be glad that you are home as well.

Happy Tess, and the sun shining as well, our swallows are with us now. Think it is always a relief when the wandering birds fly home.

I do learn a lot from these posts. Like f.i what a housemartin is. In Sweden we say hussvala. Swifts however, are still a mystery to me. What are those? In our garden we recently discovered both redrobins, starlings and as an extra treat: a bird called flycatcher, black andwhite little fellow. How sweet she is, little Tess, and so content!!! No place like home, is there?
Did you taste the smoked cheese by any chance? Or the one with ham stuck into it?

Awwwww she is so happy to be home.
Being in a strange place she didn't sleep well I bet. Too much noise and smells
Did she jump into your arms when you when to get her ?
I adore your Tess. She reminds me of my Samatha.
They are great dogs.

cheers, parsnip and thehamish

Your mention of storks takes my mind back to childhood days when I lived in Germany . Big raggedy stick nests on chimneys and rooftops along with those ungainly storks. When I then came to Australia I was curious why there were different birds. ...such a child's innocence . I still think they look kind of old worldy from a story book era.
You have a lovely blog :)
