Sunday

After a couple of weeks of providing festive meals for all and sundry and now also suffering from cabin fever in a big way, I suggested that we go out for lunch today.   It is a cold, wet and dismal day but everywhere was busy.   Our little market town was bustling and Hawes, where we were heading (the home of Wensleydale cheese and the main town in Wensleydale) was heaving with visitors as it always is every day of the year apart from Christmas Day.

To The Pantry, kept by friends of ours, where the farmer had roast beef with all the trimmings and I had a similar (though smaller) portion of roast lamb and mint sauce.   We were home again by half past one, just in time to greet my son and his wife who called because they too had cabin fever!   So we have had a nice, quiet afternoon by the woodburner and it is now time to get a cup of tea and a piece of Christmas cake to finish off the day nicely.

This wet weather will probably bring the river up and over again.  Although it was quite low, all the surrounding fields were heavily under water - so things are a long way from drying out.

I do detest the mud and muck though I'm not sure why. I guess it reminds me of decay. That, and it is a pain to walk in and deal with. A worker (our internet satellite system out) drove across our field in a cold rain last week and got stuck. Neither a truck nor tractor could pull him out so a wrecker had to be called. He didn't offer to fill in the ruts. Silly, inexperienced youth. Now I know why the animals have to be shut up for winter there. But, your days/life sounds very wonderful in spite of all the rain.

It's taken a while, but the DEvon and Trent are just peeking up over their banks today, and with the heavy rain today, they will be over tomorrow.

May you be dry, warm and comfortable in the New Year, P!

Today is the day for trips out. I am leaving shortly to join friends on a short boat ride to Sabal Beach about 14 miles south of us. The wether is delightful and we are packing a picnic lunch, hats, and sunscreen. The road is still an impassable muddy nightmare. Don't know how the village children will make it to school next week.

"heaving with visitors"
I laughed out loud, a wonderful visual. Cabin fever here, too. Fortunately the girls are back to school tomorrow and I am back to work, with all the closing out of last year to accomplish.

That sounded like a very good idea. Glad your son is out and about again. I hope the weather will not cause worse problems for everyone - we have had more rain again today and I seems we can all expect more in the coming week. At least we haven't got frozen pipes!

It has finally turned cold here and so I opened a new puzzle and hope to get started on it soon. Going out to lunch sounds awfully good.

That sounds like a lovely day out, and company come to visit too. We had bright sunshine and cold temperatures as we headed out for a day of adventure. First brunch at our favorite restaurant (they serve mini chocolate eclairs on the dessert table - who can resist one of those after a nourishing brunch?) - then a ride in the countryside and views of many eagles - a quick stop at the AT&T cell phone store to get my mixed up phone remedied and then a visit from our oldest daughter and her family - seems we had a similar day - it was good to get out for a bit - and now it is cold and snowing - so tomorrow is a stay-at-home day - maybe I'll bake bread, or make French toast.

Good to be able to escape the cabin for a while, and Sunday lunch out always seems such a good idea, though we prefer to eat in the evening. There is an excellent small hotel nearby which serves traditional English Sunday roasts (Norwegian run - this is Spain after all!) but we rarely ever go. Possibly because we have to book up too far in advance, and have gone off the idea when the day comes !
