Winter Landscapes.

Yesterday afternoon, with a bitterly cold wind blowing, we braved the weather to drive the twelve miles or so to Thorpe Perrow Arboretum in order to buy a season ticket for a Christmas Present.
It really was the most beautiful afternoon and I took photographs of the journey back.

I love winter landscapes with bare trees - and yesterday's journey was a joy.   So enjoy looking at the countryside around our area.

The top photograph is of my favourite farm.   It may not look anything special in the photograph,  But you should see the view!

They've arrived.

The first lot of 'pregnant ladies' arrived into the loose housing this afternoon and have settled in well.   They walked over the fields and came into the bottom of the yard, making their stately way up into their shed for winter (well until their due date).  More will come in the days to follow.   I love it when they are here and I can take things like brussels sprout trimmings and potato peelings down for them.  Anything a little big different is relished - just like pregnant humans I suppose.

What made us laugh is that the hens all came up to have a look what was going on and stood about in the silage shed.   It was freezing cold but they didn't want to miss anything.

It all looks very beautiful. A few tiny snowflakes falling here, and -2 degrees C. Roll on Spring.

So beautiful and yet so much green still. The bucolic scenes much what I think the countryside in England must look like. I do hope to get back some day and this time, I will spend the entire time roaming the countryside instead of in London.

I love the yellow sunlight against farmhouse with the dramatic clouds in the sky.

I love cold, clear winter days, too, and blue sky through ass thee branches.

It looks cold and crisp.

I love the tracery of winter branches - they look like black lace against the sky. Lovely quiet country roads with little or no traffic and beautiful scenery, but it does look cold.

That was a nice photographic trip round the lanes Pat, sometimes you don't need words, the photos say it all.
Here on Sheppey we had a second day of hard frost, then blue skies and sunshine and no wind but all set to change tomorrow with plenty of rain.

Our first hard frost of the season last night, but warmer and damper now. I loved the little snapshot of the lanes near you. It's lovely to see the shape of the trees once they lose their leaves.

Dear Weaver, I've been having a fine time this evening getting caught up with your recent posts. I do agree with you about preferring that Christmas not be turned into a commercial focus mid-November.

I loved reading about your trifle recipe and the various comments that suggested variations. Way back when, down in Virginia, my Mom and I created our own multi-layered variation and my Dad and brothers seemed to find it delish.

Your photographs of late November Yorkshire landscape views are beautiful. Thank your for these. Yes, those trees are splendid.

Best wishes to the expentant cows. Your mention of the watching hens has made me smile. Would watching those cows encourage egg laying by those hens. Please remember, I live in a city and am ignorant of such things.
