What to do on a foggy day.

Today there is thick fog.   As the day has gone on the fog has thickened and there is no sign at all of the Autumn sun burning it off.   Now it is half past three in the afternoon and so soon the dark will be coming down.

What to do on such a day.   The farmer always finds jobs to do.   This morning he took his fancy little digger five hundred yards down the lane to dig out a ditch for a neighbour.

I went into town with friend W as I usually do.   We both did our little jobs and then met with friend C in our favourite cafe for scones and coffee.   We sat in the window and before long friend W walked past;we knocked on the window and she came in and joined us.   For a good hour we just sat and chatted over our coffee and scones and so passed a pleasant morning.

Now, late afternoon, as it gets dark and the fog thickens, it is time to light the log burner, empty the dishwasher, feed Tess and settle down to watch Antiques Road Trip - one of my favourite programmes.   Not a wasted day at all and one with plenty of laughter this morning with pleasant company.

That was a good day. I have never seen fog last all day. I think it does that on the Pacific coast of North America.

We've had mist for a few hours each day this week, I think it's coming in with the tide.
Your day sounds lovely, especially the scones!

The weather report from the Cuyahoga River Valley is mist, rising in the morning. Sometimes the sun burns it off and sometimes it just floats up to the clouds on a grey day.

Thick mist early this am but it did eventually clear. A good morning for photographing spiders' webs will all the water droplets on them.

The sun is shining here in Vermont. I'd send you some if I could.

Do you watch "Grand Design," about building and renovating house in the UK?
I recently found it on the local Canadian station. Its my favorite right after "This Old House".

Fog never last all day here, usually it burns off by the afternoon. But clouds that never lift we have had...grey is very depressing.

No fog,but very gloomy in our part of County Durham. The plus point is the grey skies show up the Autumn colours beautifully, how many more days until most of the trees are bare?

Sounds all right to me. You can't beat meeting some friends for a chat. Keeps life going.

Damp mist rather than fog here for my 615am commute! And no Scones at work, alas. Just potentially fatal ham sandwiches.

That sounds like the perfect way to spend a dismal day.

Our PBS use to carry the British Antiques Road Show and we loved it, even went to one of their filming days down in Plymouth one year when we were in England.
Now we just have the American version and it's really not as good.

Since we rarely have any thickly foggy weather here in NYC, I always love to see its rare appearances, and let my mind wander back to the joy of discovering Sherlock Holmes stores when I was quite young. Wondering if anyone else associates fog more with literature than with actual life experience?

Weaver, it's grand that you can meet friends, sit down with scones, and even see another friend passing by who will join the table.

Yesterday afternoon I lit the wood burner and watched Antiques Road Trip. Funny to think we were both doing exactly the same thing; although I can't claim it as a favourite.

Lucky everybody who only has mist and mist which disperses with sun. The kind of fog we get here - which has persisted until this morning - is usually only dispersed by rain - and that is what I expect will happen today. Thanks for calling in though and adding to the enjoyment of my day.
